1CULTURAL INTELLIGENCE AND CAPABILITY
A universally acknowledged fact is that, human behaviour is the mirror of the culture
someone has been brought up. According to Novaes (2013), a person’s attitude, character,
way of thinking and the way an individual treats other people say a lot about his or her
upbringing. It depends not only on national and regional culture but also on family values,
which influence someone’s character. Culture directs an individual to gain necessary
perception of the surrounding.
Since my birth, I have been living with Queensland’s rural community and outdoor
culture. My childhood is a collage of several beach trips, picnics and sports game along with
sunny warm memories. As I have been practicing playing cricket in summer and rugby in
winter since early school days, it helps me to stay active throughout the day. I prefer
teamwork and leading them towards success in my workplace just as I used to lead a team of
rugby. However, as per the description of Feldman-Barrett (2015), our region is socially a bit
isolated. Financial crisis is common in most of the families and people consistently strive for
opportunities of employment. Unlike corporate opportunities, people are employed mostly in
agriculture and fishing contributing a part in state economy. I have seen tough times as a
child in my family, which has made me much calculative whenever I think of investment.
People generally engage themselves in drinking, smoking and gambling for
entertainment other than travelling or practicing a sport. Music is one of the modes of
entertainment as popular music festivals like, Laneway and Earth Frequency add colour to the
life of Queenslander with live electronic music, art workshops and lectures. I have learnt
hardship, commitment, adjustment, creativity and working together for achieving the goals of
life, which makes me a person with professional edge.
