INTRODUCTION
Cultural Safety refers to an outcome which is spiritually, socially and emotionally
harmless, as well as physically safe for people, where there is no racism, discrimination
challenge, assault or denial of their identity of what they need and who they are. This study has
been conducted in order to have a detailed study of cultural safety in a health profession
(Tweedy, 2014). The profession which was chosen under this study is Nurse. The report
describes development of an action plan in order to overcome the barriers faced by nurse and
providing appropriate solution for the same. To explain the need and implementation for such a
plan and what resources are required during the plan.
MAIN BODY
PART 1
Action plan refers to sequence of steps which needs to be taken in order to achieve some
goal. Cultural safety plays an important role in a health profession, it is concerned with
relationships between nurses and those in their care (Cramer, 2017). Developing cultural safety
requires the ability to make adjustments in services which accommodate culturally different
needs. It works on basic principles:
It aims to improve the health status and well-being which will be applied to all
relationships. It aims to enhance the delivery of health services with the help of culturally safe
workforce. So, the Action Plan will be prepared to identify cultural safety followed.

Barrier Patients reports that they are waiting for too long when the doctor is
not in ward.

Patients does not always know who is responsible for their care.
Noise at night is a concern for patients.
Solutions As noise is a concern, in that cases telephone should be muted at
night and only one member to be allowed to stay with the patient.
All staffs are needed to inform themselves to the patients before
beginning of their shift ( Ford, Heyman and Chapman, 2014). This
will overcome the issue and patients will know who are responsible
for their care.
To reduce the waiting time, a group of senior nurses to be
appointed who can look after the patients in meanwhile.
Resources or
training required
As nursing is booming profession, online resources such as
webinars at their fingertips help them access to the education.
Training should be required at regular interval about the new
techniques, equipments and also guide how to look after different
types of patients.
Rotational shifts must be assigned to every nurse.
Job rotation, so that knowledge from every department can be
gained.
Method of evaluation
Throughout my experience from the above report it has led to increase my understanding
of the service that nurse is providing. Through action plan, nurses are able to know about
objectives and goals in their profession. Although there were some barrier faced but with proper
solution one can overcome the problems.
PART 2
Action plans need to be prepared by organisation as it clarify what all resources are
required for attainment of goals, objectives, barriers and methods of evaluation. It helps in
identifying and evaluating an individuals beliefs and values and recognising the potential for
these to impact on others. It was initially a response to the poor health status. It provides an
opportunity for reflection and also identifies the measure of success. As by action plan, progress

can be measured toward the goal (Loukaitou-Sideris, 2014). Implementing of an action plan
must be conducted in such a manner so that it is suitable both for the organisation as well people
in the role being targeted. It requires a level of cognitive and personal skills which helps in
enhancing communication and interaction with others so to achieve goals. Plans are also
implemented to know whether any improvement is required.
One must need resources for the implementation of plan whether in profession of nurse or
any other. Firstly role of each nurse should be clearly defined whether part time or full time
(Holland, 2017). They must be very clear about the equipments to be used during any surgery or
during the regular check-up. Online resources can help in boosting the knowledge and help them
to get updated about the latest technologies.
Strategies to Overcome Barriers and Challenges
Barriers refers to any obstacle faced in order to meet with certain goals and objectives.
There are several barriers encountered in implying the action plan. Some of these barriers are:
Waiting time: It has been observed that the patients experience a lot of wait time while
in pain and it is not good for their health. This will increase their sufferings and if
anything happens to them it would be a Responsibility of Hospital. So, the hospitals need
to work on it.
Duty Allotted: Many a times, it is not clear to the patients to whom to report and it
delays the procedure. It is very crucial for patients and their relatives to know who is
responsible for the care so that they know who is responsible to take care of the patients.
Other than that, it brings clarity in the workings of hospital.
Noise at Night: A thing which is the most common problem faced by the patients, is the
noise they encounter at the wee hours of night. It expands the pain faced by them and
delays the healing process (Jeffreys, 2015) Nurses should take care that the patients get
all the peace and care they need in the process of healing.
These are several barriers and challenges encountered in a hospital. Some of the solutions that
can be used to meet with these barriers are:
Telephone should be Muted: All the telephones should be on mute in hospitals at night
to curb the noise pollution as it will limit the noise and patients will able to get the rest
they need in order to be cured and heal faster.

Visitors: Only one visitor should be allowed to stay at night with patient as it will help
the patient and will limit the noise in the night. Also, in day time the number of visiting
hours should be restricted as it will help the patients to have limited noise and peaceful
environment in the hospital.
Proper Allotment of nurses and doctors: When the first time patient is admitted in the
hospital, they should be properly informed about the immediate nurse and doctor who
will take care of their needs. Also, hospitals should arrange a system where patients can
contact their nurse and doctor immediately they experience any sort of pain or problem.
Reduce the Wait time: To reduce the waiting time encountered by patient more
receptions can be opened at different entries of hospital to limit the time (Geller, 2016).
Also, senior nurses should attend the patients meanwhile there family and relatives are
going through the process of admission as it will showcase the responsibility hospital
shows for the patients.
These are the solutions can be established in order to get the desired outcome from the action
plan that has been implemented.
Evaluation of Action Plan
To get the desired result proper training is provided to nurses about how to perform under
different situation, how to use equipment and how to communicate with different types of
patients. This will enhance their knowledge and would also help them to work in adverse
situation. Job rotation will help them to know about different types of patients and also help them
to learn about different techniques used in each ward. By taking feedback from patients and
doctors on regular interval performance of nurse can be evaluated and whatever the shortcoming
in between can be minimised. Action plan proves to be the most effective tool used in the
profession of nurse as this involve setting of a goal, measures taken to achieve the goal and how
final outcome has been achieved. A proper solution to all the problems have been discussed this
result in the outcome which derived from the above study.
CONCLUSION
From the conduct on above study it has been concluded that action plan is very important
in health profession. As by this plan nurses are able to know about their objectives, barrier faced
during such action plan and what are the strategies by which one can overcome those barriers

and can achieve the desire goal which was set. Here the goal in above context was To improve
ability to provide cultural safety practice to the clients that use this service and this is achieved
by performing through the action plan.
