The assignment is the review of literature that will majorly focus over the population of
students who are specifically diverse in nature. This review will thoroughly discuss the
approaches related to pedagogy for teachers engaged in work with students. This assignment will
draw the explanation from 5 major academic articles and sources from a thorough explanation
regarding the topic of discussion. It is to note that education is one of the most basic and
fundamental rights of each and every individual. This assignment discusses the context of
education and teaching towards embracing diversity and culture within the classroom. Diversity,
the topic can be thoroughly conceptualize in several ways while depending majorly over the
context. The practice of diversity in the teaching and the learning process matters majorly within
the classroom setting since it directly contributes to the equity and social inclusion among the
students. Regarding the inclusion of students belonging from diverse population, Barton &
Nishioka (2014) in their research study, “Discipline Disparities: Practice and Policy” highlighted
how the black students are being expelled or being suspended three times more than the white
students. More than 16% of the black students are being subjected to exclusionary disciplines as
being opposed to the white students who constituted only 5%. Besides these, the rate of the
students with disabilities has reported to be higher and more than twice for receiving out of
school suspensions than the students who are not disabled. Teaching in the classroom setting
requires a diverse and culturally response approach. As per “Equity Assistance Center at
Education Northwest” by Krasnoff (2016), the culture tends to strongly influence the behaviors,
the attitudes and the values of the teachers as well as the students towards development of an
instructional process. It is thus essential to prepare and train the teachers to be culturally
responsive during the teaching process with the needs and learning style of students. By enabling

proper training, the teachers within the classroom learns to bridge the gap among the diverse
style of learning and the instructional delivery. “Embrace Diversity in the Classroom” in
Northwest Missouri State University (2017) recognized the importance of the context of
diversity and why it is one of the most crucial factor in classroom for the development of
communities, trust as well as instructions. It is extremely essential so that students learn
effectively to embrace the differences as well as learn the truth and importance of different
people. Towards the study of the students from diverse population, “Appreciating Culture and
Diversity as a Teacher” at Mississippi College (2017) highlighted the fact how the teachers must
respect, acknowledge as well as understand the students belonging from diverse backgrounds
and sustainability diverse histories of culture. The belief of diversity includes the spiritual belief
of family as well as individual, together with the physical and mental abilities, the gender as well
as the political positions.
Findings
The findings of the research studies in discussion majorly focused over the importance of
the diversity within the school environment as well as the teaching approaches adopted the
teachers to provide culturally diverse students and classrooms. Discrimination within education
and learning setting in the classroom is a crime it hampers and questions the basic right of human

researches. As stated in Barton & Nishioka (2014), the question on the equity towards the
promotion of proper educational opportunities among all the students without any cultural on
racial barrier is one of the raising concerns towards the civil rights of the students. the findings of
the research study highlighted the fact that students from culturally diverse background who
have been suspended are more likely to drop out school then the other students. Two of the
recent studies within this research paper indicated that disproportional discipline has been one of
the issue where total number of suspensions as well as expulsions have been done over the black
students more than divide students specifically in the public school of Maryland . Similar results
were also found in in other schools of Oregon districts where black, American Indian and
multicultural students where being discriminated.
Promotion of diversity within the classroom setting is extremely essential since it helps
the students within the classroom to develop and inclusive mile set for a peaceful future. As
stated in Northwest Missouri State University (2017), students who have been attending school
in the year 2017 are expected to enter the employment lives by the target date of 2044. At this
scenario most of the college will not be hailing from common traditions, Heritage or speaking in
the similar native language at the workplace.it is does important for each and every student to
understand, respect and embrace differences as well as learn regarding the truth and importance
of people who are different from them. This will help them to work collaboratively and develop
a secure and diverse environment in the society.

Connecting to the gathering from the finding sections of the research, it is evident that
embracing diversity is essential and should be promoted within the classroom by the teachers to
the learners for a better tomorrow (Northwest Missouri State University 2017). Preparing the
teachers for being culturally responsive within the classroom setting includes factors like
attitude, skills and commitment, culturally responsive teaching and constructive views.
According to Krasnoff (2016), effective teaching strategies within the classroom is culturally
responsive since it is an integral part to a sense of learning and teaching qualities. The research
paper highlighted five qualities that differentiate effective teachers which are higher
expectations, contribution towards positive attitude and social outcomes, uses of diverse range of
resources, contribution to the development of classroom and finally the collaboration with
administrators and education professional for ensuring the success of the students within the
classroom. The interaction model of teacher expectation student achievement have noted some of
observable, specified and measurable behavior as within the teaching which provide equitable as
well as response opportunities for the development of caring relations. Some of these includes
welcoming students by the name as a gesture of showing respect, uses of proximity with both
high and low achieving students at an equitable rate, uses of body languages as well as respectful
expression for conveying any messages to the students, using of cooperative structures of
learning and random response strategies within the classroom.
According to Mississippi College (2017), the context of culture involves the birthplace,
tradition as well as the preference of an individual furthermore stemming from a global and
National list pattern. Diversity includes the spiritual believes as well as mental and political
positions. It is important for the Teachers to show appreciation for culture and diversity for
promoting equity and inclusion among the students in the classroom. This requires the teachers

to improve that teaching strategies within the classroom my specifically honoring the cultural
differences and teaching all the students regarding traditions, history and finally sharing
experience related to culture and the importance to welcome and value them. Mississippi College
(2017) stated that the main goal within the teaching setting is to promote respect and
understanding among the students. Some of the essential diversity activities that the teachers can
practice within the classroom includes, cultural identity worksheet, respect activities, personality
trees, individual perceptions, activities related to stereotyping and unpacking the other factors,
social economic class activities, multiple disabilities act and finally breaking down the barrier
worksheets for a vision of valuing a wide range of diverse communities.
The data and the findings gathered from the research studies focusing over the diverse
student population specifically the black students from a culturally diverse perspective indicated
the discrimination faced by the student of those community within the learning and teaching
setting of the classroom (METROPOLITAN CENTER FOR URBAN EDUCATION. 2008). The
finding and the information have been beneficial for the development of the idea related to
culturally responsive classroom management strategies for a creation of a positive climate in the
classroom with an effective learning and teaching program. Some of the implications for the
other teachers in this field is to learn to be e culturally responsive and improve the behavior and
attitudes towards the black students within the classroom. Some of the questions that still remain
after having conducted this literature review are as follows
 Are the teachers showing appreciation for culture and diversity inclusion in the current
scenario?
 What is the status of the policies towards the discrimination of Black students and the
propagation of diversity within the teaching setting?

 Do the diverse student population receive proper respect and harmony in the classroom
from their white peers?
The entire review of literature has shaped my thinking regarding the discrimination raised
towards the culturally diverse group of students, the black students regarding the basic rights of
education at the classroom setting. Diversity is an essential factor which helps to strengthen the
bond as well as respect among all the population (Northwest Missouri State University 2017).
The review highlighted the importance of the promotion of diversity in classroom bi building
community and trust it is important for all the students as well as the society e for the
improvement of the life.it is further more important for the Teachers within the classroom to
show the students regarding the value of embracing the diversity.
Conclusion
Diversity includes spiritual believes of individual as well as their gender, mental and
physical abilities. This particular study specifically forecast a diverse range of student
population, the black students who are often being discriminated and culturally neglected within
the classroom. The findings of the study recorded several instances within schools where black
students have been the victim of discrimination and penalization oral suspension twice as much
as there white peers. The review who concluded the importance of culturally responsive
classroom management as an essential pedagogical approach which guides the decision of the
management for responsive teaching by recognizing the values of cultures and propagating them
among the students.
