Abstract
The design was made with the objective to make the customer have the hustle free environment
of the ticket booking and parking management. This app was made to fulfill the requirements of
the user as mentioned in the case brief. The main procedure followed for the application design
was to implement all the features using the Heuristic principle. The application implemented a
maximum of the functionalities listed in the list. The requirements and the design were cross-
checked to make sure every single requirement is fulfilled. This completed interface design is
best suitable for the cinema halls looking to gain market.
1. Introduction
The work done in designing of the application for the cinema hall known by the name of the
Curzon is done with the use of some specific designing principle with aim of helping the user to
easily book tickets and extend the parking. The application has the defined objective to fulfill the
user requirements as listed in the case study of cinema hall scenario. For the purpose of
designing the application, needs were gathered and the application design was processed to fulfill
those needs. The app has some basic functionalities like the login, logout, seat selection and
payment which are something similar to the work done by Sandnes, et. al., (2010), the system
designed for the vending machine. The work done in this paper was for the ticketing system for
through vending machine and the interface of the whole system was designed to provide utmost
usability. The similar work was done in the work by Raj Kumar and Jaganath, (2018) which
proved the ticket booking application for movies to be more and more effective. The paper
discussed the system to be more effective if it provided the user an ease of access and usability.
The work done for the Curzon Cinema is done in order to provide the best usability of people
looking out to book tickets when sitting at home and save themselves from the problem of
queues and waiting.
2. Design reflection
a. User interface design for your application- The application designed here for the cinema
hall system is designed by utilization of the Heuristic Principle as the following:
System status visibility: The display of the confirmation of tickets and the selected seats shows
the user the status of his request (Figure 2).
Match between system and the real world: The system uses the words, images, and
configurations that match with the system world. As displayed in Figure 3, the back button is
placed on every screen to match with the real world.
User control and freedom: To provide the exit from the system anytime, the collapse menu
option is provided at every single screen which when accessed provide the user the facility to log
out of the system anytime (Figure 4).

Error prevention: The screen like payment screen and confirm seat screen are able to prevent
the user from booking either the wrong seat or submitting the wrong payment details which
reduce the overall errors (Figure 5).
Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors: In Figure 6, the user is helped to
recover from the error by providing the option to regenerate the tickets in the case of ticket
information is lost.
Consistency and standards: The designing process followed the consistency and standards
principle by making the application design which has the symbols, phrases, and others as same
as their meaning (Figure 7).
Recognition rather than recall: The user does not have to remember the path to reach a
particular page. Instead of that, the user is given the options to access the particular functioning
without remembering the path to it (Figure 8).
Flexibility and efficiency of use: As displayed in Figure 9, the quick links are placed at various
screens of the interface design so that that the user can easily access the application.
Aesthetic and minimalist design: This principle was completely followed in the interface
design of the application as only the relevant and required information is displayed in the
application interface. The screen like the movie selection screen shows the necessary information
related to the movie (Figure 10).
Help and Documentation: The application interface is laced with the ways to help the user by
providing the methods to generate documents like tickets and providing help (Figure 11)
(Machado Neto, and Pimentel, 2013).
b. Users requirements and enhancement of user experience-
User requirement list: The following are the user requirements:
Allow the user to login in the app.
Allow the user to use the app as a Guest user.
Allow the user to explore the movie section and book tickets.
Allow user to select a seat and pay for tickets.
Allow user to pay via credit card, debit card, and the cash counter option.
Allow user to extend the parking via paying through the app.
Allow the user to regenerate the tickets.
Requirement implication in the app: The following are implications
User login screen with username/password.
Guest user login screen
Movie information and showtime information screen.
Seat selection of seat for a particular show and pay when confirmed.
Payment option of payment via debit/credit card.
Parking screen in the application.
Regenerate parking and ticket screen.
c. Design influencing features: The designing of the application is based on & influenced by
many factors and some of those are:
the user from booking either the wrong seat or submitting the wrong payment details which
reduce the overall errors (Figure 5).
Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors: In Figure 6, the user is helped to

Regenerate parking and ticket screen.
c. Design influencing features: The designing of the application is based on & influenced by
many factors and some of those are:

User requirements: The design of the application is majorly influenced by the user
requirements as the requirements of the user decide what feature will be added in the application.
Like in the Curzon Cinema app, the user requirement like parking extension added an extra
feature to the app.
Competitors: The competition of the movie ticket application is vast and the application needs
some extra features so that the user can be attracted towards the application use. The application
for Curzon cinema has the extra feature of like regeneration of tickets to the app.
Design principle: The design principle selected for the application interface design influence the
design very deeply. The app here is designed using the 10 heuristic principles by Neilson Jacob.
There are other approaches using which this can be done which affect the design strategy, time
and cost.
Business/organizational requirements: The major requirements of the business affect the
designing process at a very small level. The main aim of the application launching is to help the
company to boost business and to increase the market capture. This affects the designing by
implementing the business promotion schemes in the design.
d. Similar interfaces: There are various other similar applications available in the market for the
purpose of booking the movie tickets and other related services. These applications may include
apps like Cinepolis, Event Cinemas, Cineplex Entertainment, and Hoyts. The application
considered here to compare the work of Curzon Cinemas is the Hoyts application. This
application is designed to provide various features like the movie showtime exploring, ticket
availability checking and booking tickets. Figure 12 can be referred for the same comparison
part.
Similar features: The applications (Hoyts and Curzon) allow the user to log in, log out, operate
as a guest user, show time listing and ticket booking features which are similar. Also, both the
apps have a similar theme of red color.
Better Features: The parking feature is better than the Hoyts application. The application of
Curzon cinema includes the facility to extend parking and par for the same on one touch (Troy,
2014).
Weak points of Curzon app: The Curzon cinema app lacks in the wallet availability, offer
section, promotion scheme, and food ordering for movie time features. The application of
Curzon cinema needs implementation and improvements.
3. Conclusion
The application named by Curzon app is designed for the viewers that are fond of watching a
movie and having a hustle free movie ticket booking experience. The app was designed using the
Heuristic principles by Neilson and was tested for the implementation of the application basics.
The application work is also compared here with the Hoyts movie ticket app. The strong and
weak points of the same were found out in the complete reflection process which concludes the
process of the interface designing and implementations.
