Abstract
The aim of the work is to prepare a design for the given case study of the theatre and prepare a
design to help the customers to book ticket easily and redeem parking easily with one click. For
making this design, the heuristic principles by the Jackob Neilson was utilized. Firstly, the
requirements were listed and then the design was developed accordingly. The output of this
designing came out to be the application interface for the cinema hall Curzon. After the
completion, it is recommended that the prototype should be used by the people looking forward
to booking tickets and the cinema hall trying to gain the market cover.
1. Introduction
The application developed here is for the cinema hall named by the name of Curzon and this
application is a complete package for fulfilling the requirements of the case study. The
application has a various screen that has various components such as the buttons, texts, links,
images, etc. to meet the user requirements. The paper presented by Gündüz, and Pathan, (2013)
represents the same work of designing the application for airline ticket booking system. The
paper presented the problems encountered while designing applications for small screen devices
like mobile screens. This was utilized in the designing of the Curzon movie ticket application by
implementing the use of icon more than words and labels. Similarly, the work by Oloyede,
Alaya, and Adewole, (2014) promotes the ticketing system to be online and presents the use of
the simple designing technique for the system interface. Figure 1, represents the home page of
the interface of the bus ticket booking system. Simple and commonly understandable phrases are
used to make sure the user ease of access which is same in the home page of the Curzon cinema
application (Figure 2), where simple buttons are used to redirect the user and maintain ease of
access.
2. Design reflection
a. User interface design for your application- The design created here is for the cinema hall
ticket and parking booking and this was made using the Neilson Heuristic principle. The
application interface complete adheres the principles as:
System status visibility: The status of the user query is displayed in the application on the query
status screen). Also, the screen like payment and booking confirmation are also showing the
status of payment and ticket bookings.
Match between system and the real world: The register screen of the designed application
shows the match between the real world and the system by using the same Facebook and Gmail
icons (Figure 4).
User control and freedom: The user is given the freedom to exit the system whenever they want
on every screen either by Home page link or by the use of the Menu page. The guest screen
provides both options (Figure5).

Error prevention: For preventing the errors the popups for the confirmations are used at various
screens like payment confirmation and booking confirmation screen (Figure 6).
Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors: This is implemented in the OTP
screen by preventing the user from causing an error by displaying a message “DO NOT PRESS
REFRESH OR BACK” (Figure 7).
Consistency and standards: In general, the three-line symbol is for the collapse menu and this
is the same in the application design presented here (Figure 8).
Recognition rather than recall: The ticket regeneration screen displays this functionality by
printing the most recent ticket for parking and movie, without giving the load on the user (Figure
9).
Flexibility and efficiency of use: The user login screen and other screens display the option of
the quick links on the left side of the screen (Figure 10).
Aesthetic and minimalist design: The home screen is the best example of the implementation
of this principle as limited information is displayed on the screen (Figure 2).
Help and Documentation: As displayed in the help and information screen & the help screen,
the principle is completely implemented (Figure 11 and 12) (Jain, n.d.).
b. Users requirements and enhancement of user experience-
User requirements: The application interface was designed to complete the requirements like
the ability to book tickets for movies, ability to extend the parking, ability to pay for tickets via
debit/credit card, the ability to login into the system by existing username & passwords and the
ability to register in the system by providing details like name, phone no and address. The
requirements also included factors like user being able to login into the system without login and
printing the receipt of the movie booking and parking extension. The adjacent requirements with
these include the ability to log out of the system, redirect to the previous screens and going to
any screen user wants.
Application features for user needs: The above-mentioned user requirements are completed
using the following application features:
Ticket booking was supported using the screen like the theatre selection screen, movie
selection screen, show selection screen, seat selection screen, and payment screen. The
parking booking and related requirements are supported by the parking screen, parking
extension payments, payment confirmation, receipt generation and regenerate parking ticket
screen of the application design.
The ability to log in as a guest is provided to the user at the home screen by guest login,
where the user can go through the system without logging in into the systems and checking
the movie and seat availability. The user is allowed to log in using the username and
password provided at the time of the registration into the system.
The registration facility is also provided through the use of the three types of registration by
using Gmail registration, Facebook registration, and direct user registration. The guest user is
also allowed to register in by the register as new on guest user screen.
The user is given the facility to pay for the parking and tickets via credit and debit card
mode. The user can select any of the modes and pay for the services availed.

The adjacent requirements of logging in, logging out and redirection to previous or any page
is provided by the collapse menu on screens, quick links, and logout options.
c. Design influencing features: There are various factors that influence the process of the
application designing and linking, these factors are:
User requirements: This is the prominent factor that influences the process of designing and
development. The application is designed to provide the ease of access and hustle free
environment to user and the needs of the user play an important role for accomplishing that. The
application designed here was to make sure that the user requirements are fulfilled and no other
features that are not wanted by the user are included in the design.
Restrictions: The restrictions on the design process affect the design in both good and bad ways.
If the design restrictions are of factors like cost and time, then this can cause the application
design to be limited to some features. But if there are restrictions of a particular tool or design
feature then this can be adjusted.
Design principle: Various design principles influence the design in various ways and in the
designing of the application for Curzon cinema the principle used was Heuristic principle by
Jacob Neilson. This influenced the design by making it more and more usable for the person
booking the ticket through this application.
Business/organizational requirements: There were no particular business requirements for the
cinema app here as the app was developed for the user side. The requirements like the movie
being available for ticket booking is satisfied with the design.
d. Similar interfaces:
The application designed here for the Curzon cinemas is very much similar in features with the
Cineplex application. Cineplex application is a similar application designed for ticket booking
and exploring movies section. The application for Curzon cinemas contains the login, logout,
parking and show time display features which are similar to the Cineplex application. Some extra
features like regenerate the parking and movie ticket and booking confirmations screen are an
advantage in the Curzon cinema application (Cineplex Mobile, 2019). Although Curzon has
some advantages it lacks in the field of the sharing of the ticket information and the showtime
information and then adds the food option field (Figure 13, 14 and 15). The application of
Cineplex also seems to follow a single color theme of blue and white color which is also similar
to the Curzon cinema app (follows the red and grey theme). Also, the Curzon application has the
advanced ability to post a query and know the query status (Figure 16).
3. Conclusion
In the paper here, the movie ticket booking application is designed and various aspects of the
application are discussed. The application here is based on the stated requirements of the case
scenario and this can be used by the user in order to explore the movie options, book movie
tickets and to deal with the parking and to book parking extension according to need. The design
is assumed to attract a large number of customers and is going to reduce the efforts of the
consumers and make the process of ticket booking easy for the users.
