Explanation Paper
Problem
The specific problem on which this paper will focus upon is whether the integration of
the technology of “customized shopping” technology would help the retail outlet in which I work
on a part-time basis. My supervisor had came across a recent technology through the stores have
the opportunity to optimize the shopping experience of the customers by saving their faces and
also their preferred purchased options. Thus, whenever a customer enters a store they do not
have order the things or the items that they purchase frequently since that would be
recommended to them automatically by the server of the store. This is an important problem
since the store in the recent times had not been able to perform adequately and also the
customers have complained regarding the poor service quality. This in turn had propelled many
customers related to the concerned store to switch stores which had adversely affected the
profitability of the store. This finds adequate amount of support from the research work of
Joseph (2016) which states that the sales volume and thereby the profitability of the corporations
depends on the service delivery quality and also on the satisfaction of the customers. The
resultant effect of this is that the corporations are presently taking the help of different measures
so as to improve the shopping experience of the customers and thereby enhance their satisfaction
with the quality of the services or the products that are being offered to them (Kraljević,
Filipović & Zuber, 2017). On the one hand, the integration of this particular technology will help
the store to improve its service delivery quality and earn the satisfaction of its customers which
in turn would help it enhance its profitability however the cost of integrating this particular
technology is very high and would also substantially enhance the operations cost of the store if it
is not being effectively utilized. Thus, the supervisor intends to know this would actually benefit
the store before the integration of the same.
Audience Analysis
The first important audience group or the customer segment which the store serves are
the working class individuals related to the age bracket 30-54 years of age. It is seen that these
customer usually are in a hurry and thereby do not spend a substantial amount of time in the
store. More importantly, they generally buy the same kind of products or services every single
week and there are only minor changes in their shopping list. Lastly, the majority of these
individuals usually like to make their payments through their debit cards and are well versed
with the different forms of modern technologies.
The second important audience group or the customer segment, which the store serves are
the senior citizens or the elderly people who usually frequent the store for the purchase of
different retail products and also grocery products as well. However, the problem with these
customers is the fact that although most of the time they purchase the same products yet because
of their delicate health condition and also on account of their age they cannot remain the same
and had to carry their grocery lists. Furthermore, their lack of knowledge about the different
technologies also makes it difficult for them to use the digital payment services of store and thus
they have no other option but to carry cash. This in turn makes shopping a really difficult task for
them.

Solution
A common factor between the two above two discussed personas is the fact that both of
them purchase the same kind of products frequently. On the one hand, it is seen that the working
class do not have adequate time and generally make payment though their debit cards thus the
“customized shopping” technology would be an ideal one for them since each time they enter the
store they would not have to repeat the things that they want since the technology would help in
the identification of their faces and thereby recommend the things that they usually purchase.
Furthermore, the payment method used by them frequently would also be recommended and the
customers would have the opportunity to pay through the same method and this would also save
a substantial amount of time of the customers since they would not have to repeat themselves
every time they enter the store for shopping. On the other hand, the senior citizens or the elderly
people who frequent the store would not have to carry their grocery or retail product list since the
technology would recognize their faces and thereby automatically recommend the products that
they frequently purchase. Thus, it can be said that the integration of the “customized shopping”
technology would be beneficial for the store since both of its major customer segments or
personas would be able to benefit from the same.
