INTRODUCTION
Work related learning refers to an educational practice which provides real time working
experiences to students in which academic together with technical skills can be applied for
developing employability (Beard and Wilson, 2018). The concept merges theories with practices
as well as acknowledges intersections concerned with tactic as well as explicit knowing forms.
To understand work based learning, Cybercare Ltd is considered. The company is a start-up
which performs activities with individuals along with business concerns that are cyber bullied
and persistently targeted online maliciously. The company performs role of offering one to one
appointments, workshops as well as clinics for educating public related to the ways of securing
devices including smart meters, laptops and so on. It has around 350 clients that are referred
from other entities including Women’s Refuge, Jewish Women’s Association, Police and many
more. Particular department worked in the company is Cybercare Consultant. The report
discusses about working of placement related to course and reflection on the skills and tasks. It
also includes evaluation of abilities involving reflection of learning outcomes. Various
challenges encountered during placement and the ways they are dealt with are discussed in the
report.
MAIN BODY
Review of activities
Cybercare Ltd is a placement where working of Cybercare Consultant plays essential role.
In the placement, I carried out various activities, tasks along with working to protect and support
people that were or are targeted by cybercriminals. The position also meets demand of individual
for maximising protection from the cyber stalking, malicious acts of cyber abuse and cyber
bulling (Ben-David, 2017). The main tasks and activities carried out by me in the position is to
getting in touch with clients through technical skills or social science tools. In this activity, I
understood requirements of clients by using research models and developed innovation methods.
Another task or working carried out by me at the position of Cybercare Consultant includes
initiative in which I required to think solutions in out of box for wide number of situations.
There was time when I was unaware about how to answer questions or queries of clients, by with
this activity, I used imaginative problem solving in order to come with solutions. Moreover, for
technical questions, I carried out quick internet search and provide logical answers to wide

customers. Along with this, the position also involves adjusting tools according to the situations
in order to protect people from uncertain malpractice in cyber care world.
The other activity performed includes incident handling in which a solution is created to
handle uncertain incident and various recommendations are provided to the clients according to
their needs and preferences (Duchesne and McMaugh, 2018). I also evaluated that effectively
handling incidents of the clients related to some uncertain situation assist the position to remain
in touch with wide clients and improving the position. The next task is communication in which
three communication forms are used in the position that is written, oral and online (Falk and
Dierking, 2018). Working as Cyber Consultant, it is very important to have capacity for carrying
out operations online and taking structured meeting notes, using shared vocabulary and many
more. Moreover, by communicating with clients or other business concerns, a Cybercare
Consultant uses real time documents and also writes documents in collective manner. Further,
proper communication aids in sharing idea, information and documents with others.
The next task or activity that is carried out by me at the position includes working with
others for supporting others in the need of required situations. The position carry out workings
in teams and with leaders to follow the tasks and uses channels to complete entire workings. It
has been evaluated that working with others builds teamwork and leadership abilities that is
needed to carry out activities with others for research projects of satisfying clients’ needs. It also
makes people familiar with functions as well as interfaces of various business tools in order to
work effectively to protect individual and organisations against cyber bulling or other
malpractice. Employability is the other task carried out by the position (Kanfer, Frese and
Johnson, 2017). Completing working on time and remaining available for the clients are the time
of requirements are some of workings that I carried out in this position. Moreover,
responsibilities as well as honesty are key elements of the position. I gained confidence of
customers through working with them on employment basis and provided them a suitable along
with comfortable environment to share their issues in order tp gain their confidence. It has been
evaluated that employability provided me the opportunity to work at the position and manage my
livings.
Academic context
Placement is directly related with course work as course work provides various learning
and experiences that are used in placement to work effectively (Langer, 2016). As the Cybercare

Consultant, my studies prepared me in my placement in many ways along with this I noticed
positive effects of my placement on my future plans. In my course there were various skills and
knowledge in which I did well. For my placement, my studies in employability prepared me for
Cybercare Consultant. In developing employability skills, I gained knowledge about the ways to
build network in the industry and gain confidence of others. This benefits me in pursuing
activities for the position and boosting my confidence. I also attended Silver Training at
intermediate level for understanding external factors, levels of risk and requirements of clients
from the position. The next tasks that I did well or the skill which prepared me for the placement
is communication skill. In the coursework, I learned that communication takes place in three
forms that is written, oral as well as online. When the Head of HR asked me meeting, I
confidently introduce myself and made things clear about what I wanted to pursue. My abilities
to make detailed notes of meeting, capacity for working online and making things clear helped
me in huge manner to get placed at Cybercare Consultant. Moreover, one of academic theory
that is Johari Window Model also helped in preparing for the placement (Lu, Zheng and Yuan,
2017). I used the concept of the theory that is acquiring trust through revealing information about
self to others as well as learning from feedbacks. I learned various aspects about the working of
the position and gained success in the position.
The next activity that prepared me for the placement is initiative. I have strong ability to
think out of box for some situation and provide suitable and innovative solutions to others that
protect them from cybercrime or related practices. Moreover, in my course, I developed
capability for thinking through analysing problems and providing imaginative problem solving
solution that superior of Cybercare Ltd. This benefitted me in achieving the position that I have
desires for since long time. Through working with others in my courses also developed me for
the position. As working for Cybercare Ltd, this developed me for the position through building
my leadership together with teamwork skill. Managing activities with people that are going
through extreme challenging situations, suffering from emotional as well as challenging times,
prepared me to work effectively at the position. It allowed me to build effective rapport in the
mindset of clients and making easier for the company to assess what new things can be done for
the customers that protect them from malpractices of cyber crimes.
In my course, I also learned about incident handling that prepared me in many ways for
the placement of Cybercare Consultant. The placement requires handling situations with ease.

While attending the course, I learned about the mechanisms for creating solutions and providing
recommendations in context to solving situations. At the position, I supported and advised my
superior about meeting demands of individuals that are targeted by cyber criminals and
maximising protections of clients. The supervisor is very impressed with my suggestions and
promoted to the position that had positive effect on my future plans to gain career objectives.
The last tasks that made by studies prepared for the placement is technical skills. By executing
my learning as Cybercare Consultant, I gained opportunity to get in touch with customers in
order to support first line and fill their formalities. This builds a rapport with various clients and
motivated me to enhance my client base so that I can attain success within my future plan. I
analysed some positive effects of the placement on future plans as maintaining relations with
large clients and using different technologies can help in achieving career goals (Li, Ota and
Dong, 2018).
Abilities evaluation
In the start of my placement as Cybercare Consultant, I set some of the objectives for
developing my skills and abilities. To develop my communication skill to exchange documents
with outsiders, I planned to performs actions such as structuring meeting notes, improving my
vocabulary and adopting online communication. I thought of improving it in 1 month of being
placed at the position. however, I evaluated that the time was limited and I failed in achieving the
objective in the determined duration.
My next objective was to develop working with others and to meet it, I planned to work
with peers in different department at Cybercare Ltd and also share activities with supervisors and
team members. I evaluated that success was gained in achieving the objective as I become
efficient in supporting others in the duration of Covid Crisis and gained knowledge about
properly using team communication channels. The next objective set by me in starting of the
position was to develop employability skills in coming 6 months. For this, action plans were
advancing education in the field, improve communication and become self motivated
(Marjoribanks, 2017). I evaluated that I receive success in meeting the objective as I am
employed at my dream position in which I can help people in protecting them from cyber
criminals.
My next objective is for upgrading technical skills in 2 months. This was attained through
reading online tutorials, hanging out with Greeks or technicians, studying technical books and

applying the knowledge in real life. At some level I became successful in achieving the skill but
due to limited resource available I didn’t reach to peak. Another objective set by me in starting of
the position was to enlarge my incident handling ability. To attain this, I implemented actions
such as creating severity chart, analysing and according workings towards potential issues of
clients, creating quick response guides, stimulate as well as perform tests further adopt them and
establish incident debriefing procedure. This helped in improving potentials for handling all
types of incidents in effective manner (Wen, Gao and Li, 2017).
Challenges
During my placement as Cybercare Consultant, I encountered various challenges in my
working. One of the challenges was handling incident as I was unable to understand the issues
with customers due to their mental illness and other emotions. I deal with this issue through the
support of mu supervisor who guided me in the procedures to understand situations and then
make solutions to handle them. From this issue or challenge, I learned that clients are flaky or
unreliable in nature that do not provide complete information about their incidents. I also learned
that it is the responsibility of the position to collect all data related to clients and then make
effective solution.
The other challenge that I encountered in the placement was communication with team
because of obstacles in the sharing path. To deal with this issue, I had conversation with all my
peers, team members and superiors, shared information through reliable mediums and started
communicating with all in regular manner. From this challenge, I learned that communication
plays very important role in position at workplace. Effective communication with team members
helps in gaining positive experiences.
CONCLUSION
The above report concludes that work based learning is adopted by organizations for
developing abilities of new employees and potential talents to develop career success. The main
workings performed by a position include incident handling, communication, working with
others and many more. A position performs all activities in well manner for attaining successful
outcomes. In case when they want to improve the skills, they develop an action plan and follow
that to develop them. Common challenges encountered during the placement of position include
communication and handling incidents.
