Q1
The technology advancement offers new opportunities and innovations, especially in the ICT
sector. With the increased cases of cybercrimes and increased use of social media networks, I
think a career in cybersecurity is a lucrative venture. First and foremost, there are plentiful job
openings for cybersecurity. The world has gone digital, thus increasing the security risks
associated with the adopted systems. In 2016, the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicted a 28
percent increase in the cybersecurity position in the US between 2016 and 2026. Any
professional in the IT sector or computer science would be well placed if they specialize in
cybersecurity. Secondly, a cybersecurity career pays well compared to other computer science
and IT fields. Most companies invest millions of dollars in procuring digital system, and they are
focused on paying handsomely for experts to maintain and secure these systems, (Ivy et al,
2019). Also, a cybersecurity career offers job security. Data breaches and hacking is a trend that
cannot stop so long as technology advances. The introduction of new systems provides loopholes
that can be accessed by mischievous individuals; thus, cybersecurity professionals will always be
required.
Q2
Working in the computer science field has given me a chance to understand the need for
cybersecurity not only for organizations but also for individuals. There are cases of
cyberbullying that I have come across, primarily through social media platforms. Social media
platforms are used by millions of people all over the world; thus, there is a need to protect users
from cyberbullying. Also, I have come across individuals who can quickly identify loopholes
within a system and utilized it to gain unauthorized access. Having an understanding of the
security threat in the ICT sector will become handy in pursuing a career in cybersecurity.
