1ARTIST OF THE PAST AND CURRENT TIMES
The common thing between artists of the past and current times is the qualities. It takes
talent and genius of innovation. Each one with the ability to take his or her moment and capture
the time yet make it timeless. In this paper, few of the past, as well as present artists, are
discussed along with their works.
Leonardo da Vinci: Leonardo is identified as a genius of the Renaissance era. He was not
only known for his masterpieces but also the technological drawings. He is often recalled as the
archetype of the “Renaissance man”. Few of the famous works done by him are the last supper,
Mona Lisa, the lady with an Ermine and Salvator Mundi. Da Vinci is known majorly for
capturing a subtle expression that makes his paintings more alive (Brink and Gentrup 2017).
Michelangelo: the Italian artist has played a massive part in making western art. The
artist was a painter, sculpture and an architect. The artist’s most famous works are the last
judgment, Sistine and pieta.
Vermeer: the artist was forgotten for two centuries before it became famous. His work
displayed a light as a tangible substance. Few of his popular works are the girl with a pearl
earring, the view of Delft and women in blue reading a letter.
Yayoi Kusama: the Japanese contemporary artist has been applying motif to paper. She
works in sculpture as well as installation. Narcissus garden, dots obsession, the ascension of
polka dots are some of her works (Larratt-Smith and Morris 2013.).
