Reason for the title
Darling Harbor is a marvelous place for retreat, supplied with great tourism
opportunities and luxuries amidst the beauty of nature. However, the place is also significant
to the people of Eora and the aboriginal clan of people for their necessities. Thus, a proposal
for a sustainable development with a mutual benefit shall continue in these areas.
Main Argument
This essay focusses on the ecological and economic significance of Darling Harbor,
which is a harbor located in the heart of Sydney. Stupendous beauty surrounds it on each side
and adores tourist attractions for its waterside, beautiful aquariums and the dining options.
The beautiful location is a great choice if one is looking for self-indulgence (Sydney 2019).
Funky bars, nightclubs and bistros offer wine with enchanting cocktails and delicious food at
the Cockle Bay and the King Street Wharf. The place also marks its significance in the tribal
history and indigenous culture. The place has emerged as a significant tourist spot for its
quality service and better connectivity. However, the structure of colonialism has
considerably affected the aboriginals of this place though treaties aim to develop cross-
cultural bridges. Despite several treaties, the condition of the Australian aboriginals has not
increased much to add to their betterment. Therefore, a situation of development of business
with a core community involvement shall not only protect the ecology but also the cultural
conditions of Darling Harbor and its people. The government can come in and involve itself
to enable efficient monitoring of the situations to deliver better opportunities of earning for
all, sustainably.

This study elaborates on the various situations that add to the benefit of Darling
Harbor in establishing itself as a place of beauty and solace to attract tourists and thereby,
business. However, such expanse of tourism also leaves major impacts on the ecological and
geographical conditions that arise due to pollution and over-population. The research process
focusses on descriptive analysis besides resorting to secondary data, gathered from online
sources like journal articles, books and newspapers or reports to support the arguments put
forth in the research. The research also emphasizes on the history of this region, which served
to be the frontier, creating a boundary between the Gadigal and the Wangal clans of people
who inhabited the Eora coast. The sudden emergence of this tourism business in this coastal
region will also hinder these people from the clans who used the harbor to reach the
Parramatta River in order to gain access to food. By food, the people of Eora considered
seafood, mainly, and so had named Darling Harbor as ‘Tumbalong’, meaning a place where
seafood is available. This depicts the importance of this place for the aboriginals. The already
shy, reticent and orthodox people of Eora will face a difficult living condition as the number
of visitors and businesses increase. Gillen (2007) mentions that enlightenment is a form of
journey in life from a primitive origin to the utopian world. Imperialism was supposedly
marked by the inclusion of the pop culture café — the Hard Rock Café in Darling Harbor
(Rose 2016). This depicts that the place is gaining recognition and business, becoming a hub
for capitalistic investments and employment while losing indigenous values and threatening
the traditional way of living, practiced by the people of Eora. This loss of culture and

diminishing space for the aborigines is a difficult situation keeping in mind the treaties
signed. Imperialism pertains to an idea where the nation tries to extend its rule over foreign
nations and organizations and borrows from the idea of colonization, existing primarily in
the British system of rule (Watson 2009). Despite the attempts to consider the indigenous
tribal groups and communities, the policies of the government majorly benefits the central
(Oll.libertyfund.org, 2019). The research plan can involve first hand data collection in order
to read and understand the situations of these tribal clans and the aboriginals who are still not
every left.
The local community comprises of the marginalized section of the society.
They are not very well off; however, there is an opportunity of employment for the coastal
people though that requires skilled labor. According to Marxism, the idea of
‘commodification’ and capitalism will threaten the coastal place and its working class people
who live by indigenous practices (Marx and Engels 1967). The materialistic view of the
society is constantly increasing. The Marxist Theory as it aims to observe the socio-economic
analysis to study relations across classes and social conflicts and therefore, criticizes this
view.
The plan method shall incorporate the few steps of conducting an ethical research and
by respecting the cultural and religion differences. The research shall provide protection to
the respective interviewee if such is requests are made, Data shall be raw, primary or
secondary but statistical tools, used to go ahead with the effective study and analysis of the
situation, from the part of the businesspersons, favored by such tourism practices and the
indigenous group of people. Research shall look into the quantitative study to a definite
extent if it does not want to base the entire research on an empirical zone. The plan
generation shall be based on the feasibility of the researcher. It should not disrupt the existing
situations while conduction of a research. Thus, the articles collected and read upon shall

base the analysis with prime recommendations, undertaken to co-inhabit simultaneously with
the business gains while maintaining the ecological balance and without disrupting the
cultural practices of the indigenous people of the Eora coast and aiming at a sustainable
development. This gain in the business and growth of economy where the wealth captivates
itself with a certain group of the society is leading to a capitalistic perspective (Hall, 2015).
The generation of business and increase in the number of brand shops, that have already
established a brand value, garner more customer attention, thereby raising the benefit to a
specific group until there is an entry of a competitor. Thereby, leading to an increase in the
number of private firms, leading to accumulation of wealth for a certain class.
