DATA COMMUNICATION AND NETWORKS
Introduction
The given three scenario are analyzed for the selection of the network management tool.
With the increase in the complexity of the network it is crucial to select a robust network
monitoring solution and thus the Manage Engine network monitoring tool is selected for
analyzing the data flow in the network. It can be used for monitoring the network activities and
get the status of each of the network devices connected with the network using different medium.
The OpManager is installed in the computer and the different features are explored for the
analysis of the three given scenario. The fault in the network can be detected easily using the
network monitoring tool and the tool also have the capability to analyze the performance of the
network irrespective of the medium used for connecting the host such as wireless or wired
medium. The bandwidth consumed for the device can be analyzed and the configuration changes
for the device connected in the network can be seen from a single page.
Justification of the tool choice
Manage Engine OpManager is selected as the network monitoring tool after the analysis
of the scenario because it is a powerful and user friendly network monitoring tool meets all the
requirement for the monitoring the devices and have full control over the network. There are
different features available in the OpMnager such as real time monitoring of the network,
monitoring the health of the physical and the virtual server, monitoring based on the threshold,
reactive monitoring of the network, creation of intelligent reports, setup and easy installation
(Manageengine.com. 2018). There are no complex installation procedure and can be easily
installed in any computer connected with the network and used for analysis of the bandwidth,
management of the firewall logs and configuration management of the network. The IP address

can also be managed and integrated with the active directory for tracking the IP address for any
illegal activity in the network.
Under the monitoring feature different types of monitoring can be performed such as
performance monitoring, application monitoring, Windows services, VMware events, processes,
files, folders, agents, service monitors, URLs, event log rules, SNMP trap processors, Syslog
rules and scrip templates (Solomon, Zungeru and Selvaraj 2016). The performance monitoring is
used for analyzing the firewall CPU utilization, CPU utilization, memory utilization, active
session count, analysis of the buffer, router memory utilization, switch memory utilization,
analysis of the I/O, etc. the application monitoring can be used for avoiding deadlock situation in
the network and controlling the quality of service (Kreutz et al. 2015). A list can be generated
using a range of IP address for monitoring the devices connected in the network and the device
can be categorized according to the type or protocol used for communication. The device that
needs attention can also be identified with all the details of the device such as device name,
status, IP address, device type, category, vendor, interface and the discovered time (Buchert et
al. 2015). An alarm can be set for increasing the security of the network and alert the network
administrator if any abnormality is detected in the network.
The users can be grouped for making the management easy and the details of the users
can be added manually for tracking the activity of the end users connected in the network. The
freeware tool helps in generation of the reports regarding the system, health and performance of
the network, availability and the response of the devices (Miller and Brandon 2015). The
inventory devices report can be create and WAN round trip time can also be identified for
identification of the details of the flow of the data packets from the source to the destination in
the network. The report can be used for monitoring the voip protocols used for the

configuration of the network and identification of the latency and the jitter in the data packets for
the improvement of the quality of the calls.
Tools’ features that are important for the scenarios
The features of the tool are demonstrated with screenshot for analysis of the requirement
and the tool meet the criteria of monitoring the network for each of the scenario.
Scenario 1:
The above figure shows the status of each of the computer devices connected in the
network. The IP address of each of the devices are visible and their status is marked clear and the
type of the device are show according to the group name created for categorizing the computers.
The computers that needs attention are categorized separately for easy identification of the
abnormal activity of the network.

Scenario 2:
The above figure shows the interface that can be used for discovering the computer
devices connected in the network and the finding the security of the network. There are different
sensors available and a report can be generated for the usage of the network status for the
identification of the utilization of the wireless network.

Scenario 3:
The above screenshot shows the option for creation of group and add group member for
making the management easy for the network administrator.
A group can be created or removed for enabling the group chat option and communicate
with the group members for increasing the flexibility of the network.

Conclusion
Manage Engine OpManager is used as a freeware tool for the management of the network
resources and monitoring the performance and quality of the network. The given scenario are
analyzed and the features of the tool was compared for meeting the requirement and applied for
analysis. With the installation of the OpManager the network administrator can save a lot of time
and effort by automating the monitoring procedure and increasing the security of the network.
Op manager has the customization options that can be used for grouping of the users, creation of
alert, management of the users and addition or removal of devices connected in the network. The
tool can be used for getting an overview of the network and identify the needs of the network
management for improvement of the security of the network. It reduces the need of extra
hardware and reduces the cost of management of the network.
