Report
AI Summary
This report presents a comprehensive analysis of a student's data modeling and database design project for a student record management system at Torrens University Australia. The student focused on developing a database view to effectively manage student data, identifying key attributes such as enrollment ID, student name, course enrolled, and staff details. The project involved designing the database in Excel, detailing the challenges faced in managing numerous attributes and the importance of unique IDs. The report showcases the development process through four versions, each with incremental data updates and additions of new attributes like student address and contact number. The student highlights the benefits of database management systems, including improved data accessibility and efficient decision-making, and emphasizes the importance of data integrity and understanding the system's components. The project concludes with a reflection on the acquired knowledge of database management and the successful implementation of a system meeting the requirements outlined in the assignment brief. The student has learnt about the importance of data integrity and unique IDs. The report includes a bibliography of relevant academic resources.

1DATA MODELLING & DATABASE DESIGN
In this paper I have focused on develop a proper database view that will help in
understanding the information system of Torrens University Australia. With the growing needs
of the organization it has been observed that there is a need to manage the data of the student
effectively so that it can provide a better way of storing and evaluating the systems data. The key
objective that I have focused on is to identify the major findings that will be implemented within
the database. With the help of this paper it will become easy to identify the difficulties and
learnings that I have experienced while carrying out the project.
Torrens University Australia (TUA) is a university that maintains a strong information
system for the purpose of providing better facilities towards the students and ensures that each
database has been developed in an order to provide better support towards the customers. The
database will be prepared for the purpose of developing a new student record management
system that will store details regarding student and the courses that have been selected by the
student. This will also store details associated with the enrolled data. The main attributes
associated with the system includes Enrollment ID, Student name, Course enrolled, Student
address, date of birth, staff ID, Staff name.
In order to develop a proper database it becomes essential to ensure that I have included
all the set of attributes so that all data can be gathered from the user. With the help of this data it
will become easy to meet the needs of the customers. Throughout the course of data modelling
and designing I have learnt that there is a huge need to understand the management system
associated with the database as it helps in providing an effective support towards new system. In
the given case study it can be observed that there is a need to understand the basic requirements
for developing a new student record management system. The main objective behind developing
a new management system is to ensure that all the necessary data related to the students have

been entered successfully within the system so that they can provide better support towards the
Torrens University Australia. The database for the new management system has been developed
in the excel sheet so that it becomes easy to understand the main needs of the system and will
help to understand the basic requirements while enrolling a student. The basic benefits that are
obtained with the use of information system is that it allows the users to maintain each data
effectively within the system and ensures that each data can be obtained whenever there is a
need. This helps in in providing proper data about the students that are enrolled under a
particular organization. While carrying out the development process I have faced challenges with
storing thee data as it becomes difficult to manage huge number of attributes.
The tables are developed for the purpose of maintaining records of each student
associated with the university. Every data and attributes are essential as it helps in maintaining
the systems effectively. The development of information system will increase the productivity
and helps in making decision efficiently that will be beneficial for the university. In addition to
this I have learnt that the information system also helps in improving the communication process
and ensures that each task have been carried out successfully for providing effective results. I
have prepared different version sheets for showing the changes that have been made in the next
steps. The attributes that have been included at the first version are enrollment ID, Student ID,
Student Name, Course ID, Tutor ID, Course name, course duration and tutor name. This details
are essential for determining which tutor is linked with which course and ensures that all
necessary data are linked together. I have ensured that the each attributes are being filled with 30
datasets. Each entities are being developed with necessary attributes so that it becomes easy to
manage the data within the system and will ensure that proper data have been stored within the
system that will be able to provide proper support towards the customers. I have focused entirely

on preparing a suitable data sets that will help in analyzing the functions performed by the
database.
Each attributes has been developed in such a way that it can be linked with other entities
for the purpose of fetching and maintaining data. I have observed throughout the data insertion
procedure is that it is very much essential to ensure that each ID have been entered with unique
values as this are considered as these are considered as prime factors. With the help of this ID it
becomes easy to identify the corresponding data and thus it is important to manage the data. I
have prepared four sheets with four different functions. Four sheets have been developed for the
purpose of maintaining and updating data related to the university. In version 2 I have updated
the last two records from the first version and added 5 new records. Thus the result data for
version 2 is around 35.
The whole database sheet has been developed effectively and it has been ensured that
each table has been linked with each other so that data can be maintained effectively within the
system. I have learnt that with the help of database management system it becomes easy to
increase the accessibility over the data and ensures that each data have been managed effectively
within the system. This reduces the time taken in managing the data within the system and
ensures that each data have been analyzed effectively before implementing a new information
system. While developing the system it can be stated that there is a need to understand each
components of system effectively so that it can ensure better way of managing data within the
excel sheet. The excel sheet have been prepared based on the data and necessary functions have
been performed for better way of managing the system. In the version 3, I have focused on
adding two new attributes to the already existing table. The two newly added attributes are
student address and contact number. Lastly in the version 4 we have focused on removing the 5

existing attributes that are present in version 3 sheet and included 5 more data rows. From this
operations it can be stated that I have completely understood the way excel operations are being
carried out. In addition to this while carrying out the project I have understood the importance of
proper data sets. Thus I can state that the developed database system has completely meet all the
requirements in different version sheet. This also ensures that the developed information system
contains all the necessary attributes that are essential for managing the student’s record within
the system. The data related to the system have been provided in the report in form of tables that
will help in understanding the needs of the Torrens University Australia. Thus I can state that in
this assessment I have gained huge knowledge regarding the database management system.
