AI Summary
This report details the design of a student record management system for Torrens University Australia, focusing on file-based database design using Microsoft Excel. The report compares file-based systems with databases, highlighting the disadvantages of using spreadsheets. It outlines the creation of four spreadsheet versions, each building upon the previous one, to manage student, staff, course, and enrollment data. The student effectively demonstrates the addition and deletion of attributes across versions, showcasing an understanding of data organization and database principles. The report acknowledges the need for further data and attributes to enhance data objects and suggests the use of an ERD for improved data management, concluding with a successful demonstration of data set management.

DATA MODELING AND DATABASE DESIGN
Review on the work
The assessment aims at designing a new student record management system for Torrens
University Australia that will be capable of managing the student’s data effectively. The
information system will be beneficial for the University as this will be capable of organizing the
data. The file based designing will be capable of meeting the needs of the Torrens University. In
this assessment the student has evaluated the needs of new information system so that it becomes
easy to implement the database sheets. In the paper, the student has compared the file based
systems with databases. In addition to this, the report has also included the disadvantages that are
offered with the use of spreadsheet for managing the records.
The four spreadsheets are used for the purpose of understanding the university details that
are needed for managing the information system. The student has designed the first version of
spreadsheet for the purpose of creating the tables with the details of registered students, staff,
offered courses and students enrolled. For the purpose of developing the first version of
spreadsheet 30 rows of data are entered. The attributes are designed effectively so that it
becomes easy to manage the overall performance of the university. The version 2 of the database
has designed for updating the last 2 records of all the tables. Moreover five rows are added in
each table of the version 2 sheet. The version 3 of the database sheet has been used for the
purpose of updating 2 new attributes. The last version focused on removing the 5 existing
attribute and adding 5 more rows of data. It can be stated that the student has evaluated and
performed all the necessary steps for the purpose of creating multiple versions of spreadsheet.
After analyzing the data attributes that are added and deleted for the purpose of preparing
the information system are efficient. It can be stated that with the help of this attributes it will

become easy to store the details. Every attributes are being fulfilled efficiently for the purpose of
managing the Torren’s university data. However it can be stated that for improving the data
objects and attributes within the database it is important to add some more data and attributes.
This will help in easily identifying the data sets. Apart from this I can state that, the student has
successfully used the concept of addition and deletion anomaly within a database. It is important
to use proper insertion, deletion and addition anomaly so that it becomes easy to manage the data
sets. The sheets of data are organized and managed effectively so that it can provide better
support towards the Torren’s university database. However I would like to state that while
carrying out the assessment it becomes essential to prepare an ERD. Based on this ERD it will
become easy to manage the data sets. Hence it can be stated that with the help of proper database
management knowledge it will become easy to manage the data sets. Lastly it can be stated that
the student has successfully managed the data sets.
