Database Modeling Report: Case Study Analysis and Design

This report presents a comprehensive analysis of a database model, developed from a provided case study. The process began with identifying entities and their attributes, followed by normalization up to 3NF. A relational model was then developed, detailing entities, attributes, and relationships. The report includes the creation of an Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) based on the relational model. The report also discusses business rules and constraints that govern the database design. The report provides an overview of the database design, including the attributes of BUILDING, APARTMENT, LEASE, and other key entities. • The main purpose of developing the model is to facilitate user with
effective understanding
• This analyzes the activities that is taking place within the case study.
• The major attributes that are developed for this case study are as
follows:

• APARTMENT
• PREINSTALLED_EQUIPTMENT
• PARKING_LOT
• LEASE
• LESSEE

Reason
• The main aim behind developing this database model
is to facilitate the users.
• The main reason behind having BUILDING attribute
is that it will help in managing each building ID along
with address.
• For this attribute buildingID is primary key as this is
the main and unique attribute.
• Similarly for each attribute it is being prepared

Reason
• Each attribute contains a primary key and a foreign
key
• The main purpose behind having a foreign key in
each table is that it helps in connecting with other
tables.
• Key_allocations is the only table that contains two
entities that are the main primary keys and also acts
as foreign key.

helps in analyzing the case study.
• This helps in getting all the entities listed along with
their attributes
• Moreover the database design also offers
normalization up to 3NF.

Limitation
• After analyzing the database model I can state that the
manager id that is being described in the BUILDING
attribute has no other link.
• This is the only table that contains this entity.
• Thus it can hamper the working of the whole
database model.
