Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment provides a detailed exploration of database systems, focusing on the installation and configuration of MySQL using XAMPP. The document outlines the steps taken to install MySQL, including troubleshooting steps and screenshots of the installation process. It also covers the capabilities of MySQL, including its support for SQL standards, stored procedures, triggers, and cursors. Furthermore, the assignment delves into the process of transforming conceptual design into a logical design, explaining the role of Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs) and the formalization of keys within the MySQL environment. The document includes references to relevant literature and provides a comprehensive overview of the key concepts and procedures involved in database system design and implementation.

1. Setup Experience
While installing XAMPP and MYSQL on my system, there were not such difficulties that
I faced. My system is Lenevo with processor of Intel Core i3-4005U and the CPU has 1.70GHz
(Barnett, 2015). My system has 4.00 GB RAM with 64- Bit Operating System. The operating
system that is installed on my system is Windows 7 Home Basic. The only problem that I faced
was after downloading, at the time of running the XAMPP SQL from control panel. I
downloaded the XAMPP software, and installed it on my system (O'Kane, 2017). After installing
while running the software from control panel, niether the apache nor Mysql was not starting and
after clicking the admin, there was a error that was showing “api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll”
is missing. After I updated my windows, the problem was resolved. The installing process
screenshot are provided below.

2. Capabilities of Mysql
There are many capabilities of Mysql (Gabryel, 2016). The features include:
A subset of ANSI SQL 99 in a broad way
Supports Cross-Platform
Procedures are stored using the procedural language
Capability to do trigger
Capability for cursor
Views that can be updated
Information Schema
Option for SQL Mode to control the runtime behaviour

3. Conceptual Design to Logical design
There are many ways of transforming conceptual design to a logical design model. For
that first an ERD (Entity Relationship Diagram) is to be created. For creating the ERD, all the
entities are to be identified (Coronel & Morris, 2016). The conceptual model does not show all
the entities in details. In conceptual design, all the attributes are not defined clearly. The data
entities are attributed properly in logical design. All the relationships are to be properly resolved
in logical design which is not described in the conceptual design of the ERD. The keys including
the primary key, foreign key and the alternate keys are also to be formalized in logical design
that is created in MYSQL.
