INTRODUCTION
Business is an organization where people work together to earn money. They sell product
s to the customer and provide services to them. Business earn profit by selling their products and
services. This case study is about Debenhams departmental store in the united kingdom and this
will cover micro environmental impact on the company in current situation and also analyze and
cover motivational theories and leadership style they can apply to over come from this current
situation for this company. This project will help employees for motivation and suggest and
improve the leadership style, management style and strategies that company can apply to
overcome from current situation.
MAIN BODY
Impact Macro environment had on current situation of Debenhams
There are many macro environmental factors that can had impact on the Debenhams but
the main factor which impact on company was social and culture and because of this macro
factors they had face this current situations. This macro environmental factors impact on this
company and their failure -
Social and cultural
This factor include living styles , heritage and religions that impact on companies
strategies . That how they are following trends and satisfying customer demand and on the other
side Debenhams does not follow the new fashion trend and they were they were continually
playing catch up with many of their main Rivals , John Jewis and this company also fails to
predict new upcoming trends . That was the main reason they are facing this current situation .
The main reason behind company failure was they were to much quick in expansion plans they
make many mistakes like they were selling their product on sale more less then product price
and they were suffering from lose (Andersson S 2017) Company was also suffering from loss
because Debenhams wanted to grow quickly and they were making stores and their primary
sited and large property comes up with a big rend and that's make difficulty for company to
come out from this situation and it was difficult for them to give up on those situations.
Debenhams leadership style
Leadership style always plays important role in company formation and a good
leadership style help organizations to run smoothly and effectively and In a past years
Debenhams company was using Democratic leadership style because they were working as

group, leaders were treating their staff equally and welcoming them and they were showing
their customers that they care abut their well being and supporting their shopping experience.
They also treated their staff well like they are most valuable member in the team. Management
was helping them if anyone of them want to push the boundaries and take the initiative the
initiative them they were helping but in a current situation they did not follow the same
leadership style. Leaders did not satisfy their customer because they were not following new
fashion trends that make customers unsatisfied from their services. They were busy making new
stores and forget about their team members. They did not involves their staff members to take
any decision and did not ask for any ideas or suggestions to overcome from this current situation
s , they only focus on how they can expand their business all over the world . Lack of training to
new employees is also a reason for them that they are facing this current situation, management
did not take care of customers as well as staff members because this change in their leadership
style Debenhams departmental store field in their business.
Suggestions for motivational theory
Employees motivation is important for Debenhams company because without their
workers it is impossible for company to overcome from this situation so they should apply
Maslow,s motivational theory to motivate their employees in this situation(Faletar J 2016). This
could help them them to stay motivated because this is to much effective and beneficial for
organizations
ALDERFER'S THEORY motivational theory
Relatedness Needs - employees physical requirement like cloths , food and sleep ,this
are basic requirement of employees . Company 's managers can fulfill those basic need by
providing them better and comfortable working environment. they can give breaks breaks for
drink and lunch etc. this can help employees to keep them motivated in this situation(Faletar J
2016) Physical needs are important but employees security are more important they can provide
security and well-being to the employees. securities like financial security health related security
and accidental are are needs of employees this can employees as well company. If workers will
get this all security then they can work without fear and they can archive goals for company .
Existence Needs - Social need are also important for employees so they do not feel
any depression in this conditions. Family , friend are important to fulfill this social need.
Mangers of the Debenhams should introduce every employees with each other so they can work

like a team . They should also provide them leaves so they can meet with their family and work

Growth Needs - Every employees deserve respect company mangers should respect
them and they should give them reward and promotions when they does well. It will impact on
employees and they will try to work more better and efficiently . it is important for mangers to
reach full potential of the employees they should tell them their capability so they can motivate
and work with their full potential. They can give them challenging work , task and also can
invite them to participate In decision making. This will defiantly help Debenhams to keep their
employees motivated.
Recommendation for Improvement
I would like to recommend Debenhams company managers to use Strategic leadership
style because in this case study I have found that company does not have proper strategies for
improvement and growth (Faletar J 2016). they should follow this because this strategy will help
leaders to focus on company's main operations and growth opportunities , strategic thinking will
support multiple workers at once. Management plays impotent role in the company and
Management also can use practices that can boost working capacity of the employees like team
work . Team work will help employees to do work faster and better because individual can do
any task in less time they take time to do any work but in team work they can do work in less
time and employees will learn to take decision within an group management can also give them
responsibility to employees so they will more responsible any they can understand
responsibility. Management can motivate them to participate in challenging task. Training is one
of the most important part of an organization company should give them a proper training. it will
help employees to know their standing and their actual performance so they can improve his
performance. They should should remove current strategies because this can be reason for
their failure so they should remove and implement some new strategies which will help them to
improve their situation in near future. Company should change their organizational structure ,
complicated structure create problems for employees and they cannot share their thought to the
mangers and leaders.
Experience In This Report
According to this case study I have learned that there are many micro environmental
factors that can affect business (Shuen A 2018). If we want to run our business then It is

important for us to understand new trends and demand of the customers. This small small things
can also create a big problem for us and with change we should also make changes in our
business , leaders and mangers have impotent role in business. it impact on employees according
to how they are treating them , that is impotent for them to understand need and treat them well
so they can feel good at working in an business. Replacement of new strategies and
implementation of new strategies can help in business growth, it can impact on business if we do
not use new strategies in a business. I have also learn from this report writing that business
expansion is good but we should also see financial problems and right way for that. If any
organization is doing any mistakes which is impacting their business then they should find the
solution to solve problems so their business can run again properly and smoothly
CONCLUSION
As per the case study it has been analyzed leadership theory that can improve current
situation of the Debenhams departmental company and suggestions to overcome from this
situations , motivational theories they can apply to overcome from this situation ,
recommendation and suggestions for employees to keep them motivated through motivational
theory . It has been discuss and research that on the Debenhams leadership style and relevance to
their current situation and new motivational theories that can motivate their employees and
recommendation for improvement based on this research . it has been also conclude experience
in writing this report and understanding in this case study.
