2DECISION-MAKING
Introduction
Decision making refers to the process of selection of a particular course of action out
of a number of alternative courses of action. The selection of an alternative is usually
dependent upon the values and beliefs of the decision maker. One of the most effective
models for understanding the process of decision making includes the rational decision
making model (Li, Kou & Peng, 2016). The main aim of the paper is to discuss about the
decision making styles and decision making tools used for the purpose of solving various
problems. The paper will discuss about the self-analysis for understanding the decision
making styles and tools, a reflection on the feedbacks and insights from three class members.
Moreover the paper will also discuss about the various sources of data necessary for decision
making.

listening. Creative thinking helps in taking better decision because I am able to generate a
number of alternatives through creative thinking. Therefore I am also able to look at a
problem from various perspectives. My problem solving skills helps me in overcoming
different barriers to effective decision making. Moreover my collaborative skills help me in
reaching a decision that is agreeable to everyone. And my active listening skills helps me in
understanding the viewpoints of all the people and then reaching a decisions. Therefore with
the help of my skills I had been able to take the decision of improving communication
between our team members through conducting regular sessions.
My weakness which may influence my decision making ability
However I feel that I also get influenced easily by others and therefore that can act as
a barrier to effective decision making.
The tools of decision making used by me
Some of the major decision making tools used by me includes- SWOT analysis and
decision matrix. The SWOT analysis helps me in identification of how I can take advantage
of new opportunities and also the way I can respond to new market trends (Sutrisno et al.,
2016). Moreover it can help in identification of the threats related to a particular decision. On
the other hand I also make use of decision matrix wherein rows and columns are drawn for
listing down different factors that can affect a decision and then putting weights against the
factors on the basis of their importance. Therefore the decision making matrix helps in
identification, analysis and rating the performance between different sets of information and
values and also helps in assessing the different factors. Hence, these tools helps me in taking
effective and efficient decision by understanding the different threats and opportunities
related with a decision and also by assessing the different factors affecting decision making.

Reflection on the feedbacks and insights from three of my class mates
Some of my class mates appreciated me for the decision that was taken by me that is
to have open communication with the team members for overcoming any form of
misunderstanding and issues. They appreciated me for the same because our team had been
able to resolve many conflicts since the time we have started conducting sessions. The main
reason behind the same was that each team member got an equal opportunity to speak and
discuss their perspective and therefore everyone was able to share their issues. And once the
issues had been identified, it became much easier to resolve the same. However some of the
team members also felt that I was biased as I favoured the decision of only a few team
members according to them. They also showed me why they felt my decisions was biased
such as I preferred giving the more important tasks to the team members whom I trusted
more.
Different sources of data for decision making process
Data is basically required in the decisions making process for prioritizing objectives,
drawing conclusions from data and taking decisions based on the same. Data can be collected
from numerous sources (Gray, 2019). These sources of data includes- internal statistical
reports within an organization, data gathered from different departments, data gathered
through market research, data gathered from previous researches and other sources within the
organization. Moreover data can also be collected from external sources such as family,
friends, competitors, stakeholders, media, internet, research publications, publications, press
releases and from various events.
Evaluation of decision and their significance
The decision taken by me was important as it helped us in overcoming many of our
teams issues and if the same decision had not been taken then maybe our team would have

dissolved due to increasing conflict between the team members and due to lack of proper
communication between them (Keegan & Rowley, 2016). Therefore this decision had helped
us in resolving a number of conflicts.
Conclusion
Therefore from the above discussion, it can be concluded that decision making is an
important process and moreover it is based on the personality of individuals. It is also
necessary to make decision that are bias free such that effective and efficient decision can be
made. From the paper, the rational decision making model has been understood. According to
the rational decision making model, the decision making process is based on six main steps.
Further from the paper, the sources of data important for decision making have also been
understood. Some of the major sources of data that can help in making decisions incudes both
internal and external sources of data.
