The main purpose and the focus of this writing or rather essay is to give a brief
introduction and conceptualization to the idea of Decision Support Systems. Furthermore, this
essay would explain define give an understanding of the Decision Support Systems and the
major issues it has highlighted.
Decision Support Systems Are group of computerized information system that supports
business and organizational decision making process and activities. These systems overall help
the business to improve its performance and also make the stakeholders in the process of
decision making to be faster and smarter with the information they have rather than their own
guts or instincts. (Baltzan, 2009)
In its simplest function and benefit is its ability to help the business to make an informed
decision. The users of a Decision Support System are able to make Decision based on the
processed data available. By doing this, it results to les time taken to act of a task and hence
build up to save money.
The use of a Decision Support System as a tool in this project is of beneficial to Holst’s
Planets Music Emporium Business as it provides many benefits that outgrows its disadvantages.
This tool acts as a prediction tool as it analyses and produces trends from the data available in the
business to determine the next course of action to be taken. For example, given the data for 2
years, the system is able to give an analysis of what has been happening in the sales and
expenses and produce a predictive summary. (Advantages of Decision Support System, 2019)
The Decision Support System also helps in producing presentable reports of suppliers and
their orders. This shows their performance and helps the business to decide in future which is the
best supplier for their items and the rates they charge. It also helps Holst’s business to devise
ways of coming up with ideas of retaining their customer and acquiring potential customers too.
Based on the results of Decision Support System Worksheet and scenario Summary, we
can see that the best Type of Mark-up is the Supplier type since the market demand for a product
or a service is factor of consideration and should be considered when pricing items.

The customer’s decision to make a purchase from a company is greatly affected by the
type of mark up the company is offering. For example, if a company makes a huge pricing on its
item, then the customer would not be able to purchase in future. Customers are majorly driven to
an item by the price and the value they receive from the price that’s why they opt to change their
market in order to acquire the same product or item at a cheaper price.
The best freight type for the business would be Neptune because it is cost effective. It’s
exchange rate is low according to the current rates and so this makes it to be cost friendly a lot.
With the recommendation of many freight types, there would be an increased profit for
the business apart from customers. It would also affect the business in many ways like
understanding your customers’ needs. Also different recommended Freight type would enable
the business to be globally positioned as it makes the business to be recognized in the
marketplace at large. A business would be able to understand it’s competitors very well by
market research. This is evident as the Decision Support system would produce report of
suppliers and their various charges in different items and enable the business to making decisions
on their own.
From the results of the Scenario Summary, we can clearly see that Austria is the most
appropriate country for the business to import its items from since their exchange rates are cheap
and stable as at the current economy. The choice of country to import items from could also be
affected by the tax and legal procedures of acquiring imported goods. This will result to a
business to rethink of changing the country. The type of items also affects the decision of the
business to change the country in which it imports its goods. Political instability of countries may
be a biggest challenge.
From above discussion, we can see that Decision Support Systems are very critical
systems that should be implemented in any of the business as it eases the process of making
decisions by the stuffs of the business. If business would make use of this systems, they would
realize that it has a bigger impact on the performance of the business.
