INTRODUCTION
Deeper learning concept has evolved with time and it is now actively being used in order
to enhance the learning experience of the learners seeking to develop their knowledge in a
certain specialised field. In this report, the concept of deep learning has been discussed in detail
and its importance for foundation students has been evaluated. Lastly, this report will also
identify the manner in which deeper learning can be developed in students or learners.
MAIN BODY
Concept of deep learning its importance
Deep learning can be defined as a concept through which the existing knowledge levels
of an individual or a student are developed by increasing the learning process in a more
regressive manner. Deep learning is usually done on one particular point or aspect and it is a long
process of deepening i.e. widening the learning process and ends with the learner doing critical
reflection on the learning that an individual has done (Ning and Zhu, 2016). Deep learning is
usually done for a lifetime and can increase the thinking levels of the individuals developing it at
a higher order.
Foundation level students are those students who want to develop their learning in one
specified field for area rather than a general learning on a multiple topics and diverse fields.
Since deep learning can be categorized a specialised learning under which one topic or one
particular area is researched, evaluated and critiqued so that relevant concepts can be formulated;
it is an extremely effective procedure for the students pursuing foundation level courses since it
is an extremely tough procedure. Deeper Learning is a relatively new concept and is extremely
useful in developing a specific knowledge i.e. it basically teaches how to learn i.e. how learning
should be developed (Vilar and Zabukovec 2017). There are various benefits that students of
foundation courses can utilise by incorporating deep learning practice in their learning
framework:
Competency: Since Deep Learning is associated with skill development in a particular field or
area, it is often useful in developing competencies of the learners or students learning as per the
deep learning guidelines. Rather than having average knowledge about everything, they possess
as expert knowledge on one particular area.
Critical Thinking: Deep learning promotes critical thinking ability of the students studying
foundation courses which helps them in regularly refining themselves so that they can analyse

the knowledge that they have gained and therefore, their ability for critical analysis and thinking
develops which helps them in taking efficient decisions automatically improving their leadership
skills.
Skilled Workforce: Incorporation of Deep Learning in the learning process helps in developing a
skilled workforce that is able to garner jobs on the basis of their specialised learning and through
this they can take attractive job roles according to the skill that they actually have developed.
This improves their individual performance as well as group performance.
Development of deep Learning
There are a variety of steps through which deep learning can be developed by the
individuals intending to develop it. There is a series of six effective steps that can be taken for
inculcating deeper learning:
Connect: The first step is through integration of the students with the subject that they are
supposed to study (Plessis, 2015). In order to encourage a more comprehensive and developed
learning, it is essential that the students are well versed with the subject in which they intend to
develop deeper learning. This helps in developing a constructive learning procedure where the
learners are able to generate regular feedbacks on the work that is being performed by them.
Empower: This is the second step through which learners are encouraged to develop learning
goals for the subject or topic that they are pursuing. This will help them in narrowing down the
scope of their study and then they will be able to actively develop their learning by engaging in
the entire process and curriculum that they follow for their deeper learning can also be
specialised.
Contextualize: In order to inculcate a more enhanced learning and development during the
process of deeper learning, the subjects that an individual intends to study should be simplified
by their application to real world themes, examples and concepts. This will help in developing an
integrated approach towards the education and therefore enhance the learning experience of the
student or learner.
Reach: Deeper learning cannot be developed by operating in a confined environment or in a
limited area. In order to adopt and implement holistic learning attitude in the process of
inculcating specialised knowledge practices, it is essential to move beyond the comfortable area
and explore the wider horizons of education like involving in conversation s with the visionaries
etc.

Inspire and Wire: The individuals intending to develop deeper learning must ensure that their
learning experience is inspired by the field in which they actually intend to conduct the research.
The best manner in which individuals can inspire themselves is by taking assistance of the
technology. By integrating technology, deep learning will help in enhancing the knowledge of
the learner efficiently rather than making the process automated (Swart, 2016).
CONCLUSION
The research conducted in the above report helps in concluding that the concept of deeper
learning is indeed important for those individuals or learners intending to expand themselves in
the major emphasis should be on formation of goals necessary to be achieved. Further, the report
identified that technology can play a major role in developing deeper learning since it gives
access to unlimited knowledge and understanding. The report also identified the importance that
deep learning holds for students pursuing foundation courses since it assists the process of
developing specialised learning and this is then supported by the enhanced employment
opportunities that are presented to such individuals with deeper specialised learning. Therefore, it
can be concluded that deeper learning should be integrated more and more in the learning
process of students all over so that skill level and employment level of the entire economy can
improve.
