INTRODUCTION
Deep learning can be defined as a process in which students can make use of their high
order cognitive thinking skills, in regard to solve the complexities of learning process. The
higher cognitive thinking skills consists of analysing, synthesizing, evaluating, judging, relating
and applying the knowledge (Lillicrap and et.al., 2016). This study discusses the concept of deep
learning and also the significance of deep learning approach in the life of students of foundation
year. This study states the way of ensuring development of deep learning in the learners.
a) Deep learning concept and its significance for students of foundation year.
Deep learning is a method or an approach which provide a learning attitude to the learners or
students. In this approach of learning the students uses their high cognitive skills which
includes:- synthesizing, analysing the knowledge and problem solving skills with the motive of
developing their understanding for long time period. Basically, the approach of deep learning
involves analysing the new thoughts or ideas critically, then synchronization of ideas with
existing concepts, theories and principles (Patel and et.al., 2019). The aim of using this approach
of deep learning is to use the understanding in order to find solutions for new problems, and
unfamiliar circumstances.
The significance of deep learning for the students of foundation year are discussed as
follows:-
Promotes understanding-
Deep learning is important for the students as because it promotes deep understanding of
related subject matters in them. By the process of deep learning, learners use the skills of
analysing, judging the situation, skill of solving the problems and hindrances. The use of high
cognitive skills while following the process of deep learning, will help the students in developing
their knowledge as well as their understanding of their subjects (LeCun, Bengio and Hinton,
2015). In-depth understanding is very essential for balance growth of the learners and deep
learning approach provide that understanding to the students which will stay with them for long
term as well.
Encourage Motivation-
It is very important for the students to be motivated for the aim of their life. To keep their
motivation level high, following the procedure of deep learning is significant for them. It will
ensure construction of long-term understanding which will further assists to keep the students of

foundation year highly motivated to achieve their set educational targets. Deep learning method
develops the intrinsic motivation in the learners, which means that the students remain self-
motivated for the achievement of the set personal goals.
Application of Knowledge-
Deep learning is significant for the overall development of students, as it entails in-depth
understanding, the students also make the use of that understanding in their real life. Through the
application of their understanding in their life and make the implication of ideas possible in real
world by generalizing the results of analysis and evaluation of new thoughts and ideas.
Developing positive attitude-
It is significant for the students to get engaged themselves in deep learning as because
this approach ensures the use of cognitive skills of higher order, and construction of long term
understanding. This will make them apply that understanding skills in their real life by linking
their current knowledge from the existing principles and concepts (Gulshan and et.al., 2016). By
following the deep learning approach the students become able to develop positive attitude in
them regarding every kind of situation to achieve their personal goals, which is very important
for the foundation year's students.
Develops Self-direction skill-
The skill of critically analysing and synthesizing, judging and evaluating, generalizing,
relating and applying the knowledge will develop the self adjusting as well as self directing skill
in the learners. The motive of deep learning approach is to find the solutions for the problems
which comes in the way of learning process, which develops the skill of self-directing in the
students of foundation year.
b) Development of deep learning.
The term deep learning encompasses the overall skills of the learners, knowledge and
develops positive way of thinking in students to solve the problems faced in the process of
learning (Khan and et.al., 2019). There could be some ways by deep learning method can be
developed in the students and learners, which are explained as under:-
Focus on aim-
Firstly, the students need to concentrate on the objectives of learning process. The focus
on the set target or aim is the starting point from where the process of following deep learning in

the students could be developed. It is necessary to have focus on the target of learning process to

Adoption of critically thinking approach-
Present students are the decision makers and leaders of the future, that's why it is needed
ensure the ability of handling and facing the work pressures and challenges respectively. This is
why the students need to develop and adopt the skill of thinking critically, along with the
existing methods, concepts and tools which come in use to solve the complexity of learning
process. The approach of critical thinking will assist them in identification of the reason of
certain problems, by which they become able to find the effective solutions, and simultaneously
become able to ensure the development of deep learning (Higgins and et.al., 2016). Approaches
of critical thinking consists of various skills such as; students must have observation,
interpretation, evaluation, analysis, skill of explaining, solving the problems and must be able to
make their own decision. These skills are the foremost requirement in order to adopt the critical
thinking approach for effective outcome of learning.
Evaluating and Judging-
By making sensible evaluation of analysed facts, and also through make fair judgements
the development of deep learning could be possible. The students need to develop evaluating
skills in them to make relevant judgements and to ensure effectiveness in the outcomes of the
learning process. Deep learning can be developed by in the learners by giving them practical
problems to face and to find their solutions by drilling their mind, and by applying their own
sources. Research skills in addition is key ability which assist in development of approach of
deep learning in the learners.
By developing communication skills-
Communication skill is the foremost needed skill for developing deep learning. To ensure
the flow of new ideology and thoughts it is necessary to communicate that. Communication is
not only for addressing others, it also involves listening and understanding the feedback too. By
communicating the thoughts, principles, concepts regarding the learning process is necessary to
develop deep learning in the students (Khan and et.al., 2019). Communication about the
solutions of the complexities in the learning process will make the students to think deep inside
to convey the actual meaning of their learning, which further develops the approach of deep
learning in learners.

Applying the understanding in life-
Deep learning can be developed when the learners will apply the learned knowledge in
their real life and can related their understanding from their live situations. Development of in-
depth learning is the process which is influenced by the way of application of the understanding
by the students in their real life. If the gained knowledge can not be applied in the real life of the
learners then that learning is being considered as waste of time and efforts too (Gulshan and
et.al., 2016). That's why the learner must ensures that the learning method which is used by them
is useful in their real life growth or not.
c) Conclusion.
In this study, it can be concluded that the process of deep learning is very essential to
ensure the overall development of the students of foundation year. Deep learning approach plays
vital role in the overall growth and development of the students. The significance of deep
learning in students life has been stated in this study. This is analysed by the above study that the
various skills has been developed in learners through deep learning, such as; communication
skills, self-adjusting or self-directing skills, development of understanding for long term,
development of intrinsic motivation and positive attitude etc. This study also conclude that to
develop deep learning in the students of foundation year it is necessary to follow up certain steps.
The way by which deep learning can be developed has been discussed in the above study, which
consists of various methods such as; by focus on the core aim, by adopting the approaches of
critical thinking, by ensuring the application of gained knowledge in real life, by using research
skills of evaluating and judging the analysed results, and also by developing communication
skills. It can be concluded from the above study that the students of foundation must follow the
approach of deep learning for using higher cognitive thinking skills and to find the effective
solutions of various complexities while pursuing the process of learning and to get the favourable
and positive outcome too.
