The assignment explores the causes of the disaster, including equipment failures, inadequate risk management, and poor safety measures. It examines the responsibilities of project managers and various teams involved, highlighting the importance of effective project management. The case study also discusses the application of numerical and non-numerical models for project selection and completion, emphasizing their role in preventing future incidents. The analysis covers the environmental impact, human loss, and the need for improved project management practices within BP. Response to the Case Study
The case study discusses about the largest oil spill incident that took place within the
British Petroleum and which is considered as the biggest failure incident. The main factors that
had contributed to the failure in the incident are: failures of supported equipment, poorly
designed plan for risk management and poor kind of safety and testing measures (US oil spill,
2011). The case study also discusses about the responsibility of project manager, project quality
management team, project human resource team, project integration management, project
communication management, project risk management and other concerned teams who should
hold responsibility during the entire duration of project.
Based on the case study, it has been understood that the incident had happened due to an
explosion at British Petroleum Deepwater Horizon oil well. It had resulted in loss of human and
animal lives. The primary purpose for the design of the project was to identify and then extract
oil from the natural oil reservoirs of the earth. The primary recommendations have also been
provide, which could be implemented within British Petroleum in order to prevent such kind of
incidents in the near future.
In this case study, the numerical model and non-numerical model have been discussed.
These are considered as the models for selection of project and the proper processes for
completion of the project (Project Management Institute, 2017a). The case study also discusses
these models that could be applied to the incident in order to prevent such kind of future
instances. These models would further help in guiding the project and thus help in delivering
successful outcomes.
