Deforestation refers to massive destruction of forests through cutting down of tress. The
forest cover in the world’s land mass is about 31% and human beings have threatened to reduce
this value further through cutting deforestation for various other land uses such as construction,
excavation and farming. This paper examines the effects of deforestation is various aspects such
as economic, social, political, ecological, cultural, historical and historically.
Economically, deforestation exposes human beings to climate changes that may increase
natural calamities such as cyclones, hurricanes, rising sea levels and drought. The effects natural
calamities may include destruction of property, roads power and communication. In addition, the
calamities may also affect other economic activities such as farming and business activities
(Wang, & Qiu, 2017). It also costs governments a lot of money in disaster management and
prevention.
Social effects of deforestation manifest in various ways. Climate changes caused by
deforestations may lead to population redistribution, adverse weather and natural calamities
cause human suffering and increases poverty. Climate changes also causes health risks on people
such as cancer due to greenhouse effect and depletion of the ozone layer.
Ecological effects of deforestation include effects on the natural landscape. One of these
is soil erosion. Deforestation leaves soils loose and without wind breakers this exposes the soil to
agents of erosion such as wind or running water (MacDougall, MacLeod, & Beltrami, 2015,
April). Climatic changes as a result of deforestation may also cause desertification as
deforestation affects rainfall patterns.

Political effects of deforestation are evident in the sense that the governments seek to
protect the environment. Therefore, the government enacts laws to protect the environment since
it is left to deal with the adverse effects of deforestation. These laws may compel individuals not
to clear their own land.
Culturally, deforestation may affect the organization of society as well as various cultural
activities. According to Beckman, Sands, Riddle, Lee, & Walloga (2017), some trees are
considered sacred by some religions and falling down such trees may affect the beliefs of such
people. Destruction of such trees may prevent these cultural activities from taking place.
The special distribution of people is largely dependent on deforestation. When people
clear trees to construct houses, population increase in the region. If deforestation causes adverse
effects, people may be forced to leave. The special distribution of people affects various human
activities socially economically and politically (Longobardi, Montenegro, Beltrami, & Eby,
2016).
Historically, deforestation can be said to have affected the humans in different ways. This
is so because, some indigenous trees have become extinct in the course of time. Efforts to
conserve forests have also led to the planting of fast growing trees. Due to this, future
generations might not be able to find some tree species. Deforestation has also affected human
beings in various ways as discussed above which has changed the course of history that is learnt
today.
In conclusion, it is clear that deforestation affects human life adversely. It is therefore
important that human beings increase efforts in environmental conservation to prevent some of
the negative consequences.
