1. ABSTRACT
India is considered as the second most populous nation in the world with around 1.32 million
people. The population of India is growing rapidly with the average birth rate of 1.2% yearly and
is expected to be growing 1.4 million by 2020. The rapid increment in the population is
impacting various factors of the environment, economy and culture (Chaitany, 2018). The main
impact of the overpopulation reflects on the environment in the form of pollution and lack of
natural resources. Delhi is the capital of India and the impact of pollution reflects most on Delhi
in the form of air pollution. The average death due to air pollution in India is approximately 1.5
million people per year and air pollution is considered as the fifth biggest killer in India
(Chaitany, 2018).

2. INTRODUCTION
Air pollution relates to the emission of harmful pollutants in the air that is detrimental to the
environment and human beings. Emission of chemical affecting the lifestyle of people in India.
As per the research, 1.5 million people are dying due to air pollution in India and Delhi is
considered as the most polluted city of India (Morgan, 2019). The research will contribute in
analyzing the impact of air pollution on the environment, economy and culture of India as well
provide the details regarding the factors causing air pollution in Delhi and the ways to reduce
the issue for future progress. The research is conducted for analyzing, collecting and measuring
the data regarding the impact of air pollution in Delhi and the ways to reduce the impact
(Morgan, 2019).

3. METHOD
DATA COLLECTION METHODS
The method in the research will contribute to gathering data information regarding the
research. The research is based on air pollution in Delhi (India) and the organization of research
will benefit in understanding the source of air pollution, the impact of pollution and the
methods to reduce pollution in Delhi for the growth and development of the country. the
methods used in the research is based on primary and secondary data collection method that
will help in gathering relevant information regarding the issues of air pollution in Delhi (Quinlan
et al., 2019).
Primary data collection method
Primary data collection method includes the collection of data on a direct basis with the help of
interviews, questionnaires, and observation methods. The data gathered through primary
methods is on an individual basis and will benefit in collecting information regarding air
pollution, the impact of air pollution on environment and culture of Delhi (Quinlan et al., 2019).
Secondary data collection method
The secondary data collection method is indirect data collection method in which the analyzed
and evaluated data is again evaluated for research purpose. The data gathered through
secondary research method is collected with the help of case studies, literature reviews, online
articles and magazines. The data gathered through the second method in this research is based
on air pollution in Delhi and will benefit in providing necessary recommendations for
minimizing the impact of air pollution (Ness, 2015).

4. CASE STUDY
The case study will benefit the research in collecting information regarding air pollution in
Delhi. The study will provide details about the historical background, the current situation of
the city and the future consequences of air pollution on Delhi (Thomas, 2015). The analysis and
evaluation of the case study is as follows-
4.1 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE ISSUE
Delhi is the capital and second-largest city of India. The city contains the majority of the
population around 1.9 crores of India that influence many factors such as environment,
economy and culture. In the year 2017 after the celebration of Diwali festival Delhi is converted
in one of the most pollutant city of India due to the emission of smoke and dust (Kumar et al.,
2015). In November 2017, the air quality index recorded by most of the monitoring stations is
above 999 that shows the pollution level in Delhi. Delhi is considered as a most polluted city in
the world and the impact of the pollution impacting the life and environment of the country
(Kumar et al., 2015).

Based on the graph on November 8, 2017, the Air quality index measure is 1010 which is above
the worst pollution limit and contributed in considering Delhi as a most polluted city on earth
(Kumar et al., 2015).
4.2 CURRENT STATE OF THE PROBLEM
India is situated in South Asia and is considered the second-most populous country in the world
with an estimate of 1.32 million people based on the recent data and is growing rapidly with
the average growth rate of 1.2% annually. Delhi is the capital and second-largest city in India
with a population of 1.9 crores. The increase in population is impacting the environment and
economy of India. Delhi is considered as a most polluted city of India with the Air quality index
in between 100 to 300. The AQI between 100 to 300 is not satisfactory and thus Delhi needs to
adopt changes for air pollution control (OneIndia, 2019).

As per the report of 2018, the Air quality index reported is 175 which is unhealthy for the
environment of Delhi as well as for the peoples. The report describes the air pollution level in
Delhi and the impact of pollution on the life of people (OneIndia, 2019).
4.3 FUTURE CONSEQUENCES
Air pollution in Delhi is increasing day by day that affects the lifestyle of the people and
environment that hurts the economy, culture and growth of the country. The increment in air
pollution causing health-related problems to the people that impacting the current generation
that increasing the deaths rates in Delhi that impact the economy and culture (Mai, 2018).
Consumption of natural resources such as petrol, diesel and fuels increasing the pollution in the
air and decreasing the number of resources for future use. The air pollution is increasing health
problems and consumption of resources that contribute to a decrement in the development
and success of Delhi (Mai, 2018).

5. CONCLUSION
The air pollution affects the life of human beings and impacts the environment, economy and
culture of the country. The air pollution is increasing due to industrialization and development
but has a dangerous impact on everyone. Delhi is capital on India and is considered as most
pollutant city of India due to air pollution occurred by running of vehicles, industries and dust.
The control on air pollution became necessary for Delhi to preserve the future and to maintain
the environment and economy of the country. The research will contribute to Delhi in carrying
out the ways through which the air pollution can be reduced and benefit Delhi in improving
environment and economy.

6. RECOMMENDATIONS
Action for controlling the air pollution in Delhi is required for securing the future from the
issues and for development of the country. The recommendation will help Delhi in reducing and
controlling air pollution and benefit in development and progress for future generations (Brara,
2018).
Carpooling is one of the best ways for reducing air pollution as carpooling will benefit
in reducing the number of vehicles on roads by sharing common vehicles for work.
Use of bicycles, public transport and CNG vehicles will benefit Delhi in reducing air
pollution as the majority of the air pollution in Delhi is caused due to vehicles.
Adaptation of solar power instead of other sources in industries help Delhi in reducing
the smoke level and benefit in preserving the environment for the future.
Maintainance of roads for vehicles and machines in the industries contributes to
reducing smoke level as improver working of machinery produces lots of smoke and
dust.
