INTRODUCTION
Information technology system is an equipment and a system that is interconnected and is
used in automatic acquisition, storage, manipulation, management or reception of data and
information (Avgerou and Walsham, 2017). Thus, in this report Deloitte has been taken into
consideration. It is a multinational professional service network in the whole world and also has
number of professionals. It has been headquartered in London, United Kingdom.
In the following report, use of IT systems with different functions of Deloitte along with
its contribution towards achievement of objectives has been analysed. Furthermore, various ways
has been discussed in which IT system stores the data for knowledge. In addition to this, this
report also highlights on support of IT system in business operations along with
recommendations has been discussed in detail.
LO 1
P1 Analysing utilization of IT functions
Information technology system is termed as use of computers in order to store, retrieve,
transmit and to manipulate data. It is also considered as subset of information and
communication technology. It is the technology that is being used by Deloitte. It is also used by
people of the cited company in order to interact with each other and support the process of
business. Thus, the use of IT systems with various roles of Deloitte has been discussed as per
below context-
Planning- this is the process in order to decide in advance what has to be done and how it
is to be done. It is the process in order to determine course of action that helps in
achieving desired results. Thus, IT system is a set of system that is based basically on
computer. It is the procedure that has been implemented in order to help managers of
Deloitte in their job in terms of decision making and planning. This function of Deloitte
helps in effective and faster achievement of objectives.
Organising- it requires formal structure of authority and also the direction that flows such
authority through which subdivisions of work are defined. IT system helps in keeping the
ecord of skills through which the task is been organised accordingly.
Staffing- staffing is the function that helps in terms of hiring and retaining suitable
workforce for enterprise both at managerial and also at non managerial levels. It involves

process of training, developing, compensating and also in evaluating employees and also
in maintaining workforce by giving them proper incentives. Thus, Deloitte makes use of
this IT system in terms of staffing. It helps in tracking candidates throughout the process
in order to hire them. In addition to this, Applicant tracking system and recruiting
automation solution can be found in staffing process (Stair and Reynolds, 2017).
Directing- Directing is termed as process or technique by which instruction is issued and
carries out various operations. It is that function that helps in guiding, inspiring,
overseeing and also instructing people in order to accomplish the objectives of Deloitte.

Security – Information security management is now one of the most essential IT
functions in a company. It helps in protecting corporate data against attacks from
cybercriminals, viruses and other threats. But IT systems also increases the risk of data
theft.
P2 Explaining IT system contributing
There are various technologies used by small and large scale organisations in order to
manage business activities and in the process of decision making. The different types of
IT system used in Deloitte are explained as below –
Transaction processing systems – This type of IT system is used for meeting the needs of
storage, data collection, processing and out-putting functions for the business operations.
TPS information systems gather information or data from user inputs and further render
outputs on the basis of data gathered (Sun, Strang and Firmin, 2017).
Customer relationship management – Deloitte use customer relationship system in order
to adjust market & sales activities or efforts. CRM systems accumulate and track
customer actions, involving product defects, buying trends and customer queries. The
capabilities of an effective CRM information system let customers to communicate with
organisations for product or service feedback solutions.
Knowledge management systems – Knowledge management systems arrange and dissect
knowledge & then again distribute or share it with employees working in the
organisation. The main role of this information system is improving performance, convey
innovation, develop knowledge and ring integration within the business and organisation.
Business intelligence systems – The business intelligence systems can be a little complex
as they determine, collect and examine information or data for different operational
requirement, specifically for making decisions. This information system can help in
providing analysis that can predict future patterns of sales, summarise current costs and
forecasts sales revenues.

LO 2
P3, M2 & D2 Various ways IT systems store and process data
Information technology systems store and process data or information related to customer
relationship management (CRM), knowledge management, communication & data management
in different ways. The various types of data processing methods can be describes as below
Scientific data processing – It is a extraordinary kind of method used for data processing
in research and academic studies. It is very essential for scientific information to ensure
that there is not mistake or error in the conclusion. This type of data processing requires
making conclusions, so the stages of summarization and sorting generally needs to be
done cautiously, utilising a wide range of techniques in order to make sure no incorrect
results are developed.
Commercial data processing – Commercial data processing has various usages and can
not need difficult sorting. It was utilised basically within the marketing function for
customer management relationship management or CRM applications and billing, payroll
and banking functions. Maximum information or data collected through these
applications are standardised & does not consist any error. Commercial data processing
method generally relied upon standard relative information and utilises batches processes.
(Lu, 2017).
Batch Processing – In order to save essential and useful computational time, earlier to
the general utilisation of distributed methods or even later , stand alone computer systems
use batch processing methods. This is very helpful in financial applications or where data
security is important for example in Medical records.

P4 Evaluating IT functions supporting value added change
Information technology can be very useful for each and every business or organisation, it
helps in collecting analysing and storing data along with accuracy. The IT systems can help a
business to gather and store most appropriate data related to market, organisation, customers etc
which can be used again and aim in order to obtain suitable results or outcomes. This data or
information can be helpful in decision making process. In addition this, businesses in present
world are greatly adopting different types of information technologies for improving

effectiveness and efficiency of the business operations and achieve competitive advantage.
Organisations can utilise information systems or technology to change the expenditure of doing
and performing organisational activities or decreasing costs of business process, suppliers and
lower costs of customers. For example – online business to customers and business to business
models, e-procurement systems to decrease operating costs. It can help organization to achieve
competitive advantage such as Cost leadership (Madon and Krishna, 2018) . Business can also
use IT systems such as online live chatting systems and social media network to develop
distinguished characteristics in order to cut down competitors’ competitive advantages. It can
also help to serve and understand customers in a better way. Utilisation technology to develop
informediaries to offer value added service and improve customers’ attractiveness to
organisation’s website or business. Applying established and advanced measures for online
operations to offline practices for example more systematic and accurate methods of measuring
effectiveness and efficiency of advertising. Other IT systems are digital modelling and
simulation of product design that helps in reducing time and cost to the market. These method or
systems can help to identify and develop new products and services with the help of automation
or information technology. This can also help in new initiatives of developing pure operations or
businesses. Along with this internet and telecommunication networks provide better
opportunities and capabilities for innovation. For example - Open innovation and combinational
innovation. There is huge number of component parts on the networks which are very costly and
highly different before development of the network and business could combine or recombine
parts on the networks in order to create new innovations. On the other hand each and every
individual is linked through private laptops, computers and other mobile devices through
wireless networks or internet and mobile networks. There are many opportunities to develop
relationships with customers, internal and external partners or stakeholders.
M3 & D3
The organisations can also set up global operations & internet platform, developing omni
channel plan to achieve development, omni-channel strategy focus on benefits of both offline &
online channels. The global internet and operation platforms are helping many e-commerce
websites or business to sell their goods and services in different countries without much
investment in the establishment of infrastructure of physical existence.

P5 & M4 IT solutions for Deloitte
Adopting or implementing a Business intelligence solution can be an effective method for
improvement in Deloitte. It helps the organisation by providing integrated insight into
information or data from each and every corner of the business. In order implement Business
intelligence solution in the most effectively manner the organisation can use the five phase
model as described below –
1. Collect the organisational analysis and reporting requirements up front – It is very important
step and best practice to include each and every stakeholder from the executive team the
organisations users from the get go. Having all the essential requirements from them up
front helps in saving a huge amount of extra rework (Martin, 2017)
2. Breaking down the requirement into major organisation phases & areas – This makes much
more manageable work that means it becomes easier to stay on point. In addition to this,
project members feel more productive knowing work is being accomplished. This is just
opposite of having just on huge deliverable. Along with larger Business intelligence
implementation projects when an organisation faces barriers or issues the delivery schedule
can be pushed out numerous times and the business does not have anything to show for all
the work that has gone into them. Segmenting the project into multiple phases helps to
create a more iterative development procedure in which communication with the project
stakeholders is consistent and frequent.
3. Select the priority of phases – Scheduling the phases is very highly dependent on internal
and dynamic politics within the organisation or business. But while figuring out the
priorities and schedules it is important for an organisation to consider the following-
The areas of the organisation or business which can obtain the maximum benefit from a
specific phase
The phases that will affect business highly
The departments which are likely to adopt a new reporting and analysis tool more easily
Identifying which areas of the organisation have clearly determined metrics that can
successfully implemented.
4. Validate data continually – An effective approach to organisation’s Business Intelligence is
also very essential when it comes to validation of data. In the present world of Business
Document Page
intelligence, data integrity is very important. The business can easily lose faith of end users
forever if its data is not accurate during the initial roll out. Constantly analysing and
managing data can helps to find better opportunities in order to identify errors and it makes
final validation stage easier on the validation team (Trieu, 2017).
5. Gradually roll it out to organisation’s departments – Rather than trying to pressurize entire
organisation to make complete paradigm shift at once, implementing Business intelligence
application to individual departments or areas of the business can help the organisation to
focus on its resources a little at a time to ensure implementation is smooth and successful.
Positive word of mouth related to successful implementation and effectiveness of the tool
can make other departments excited and engaged when their turn comes for adopting or
using the Business Intelligence application.
D4 Critiques for recommendations
In order to implement and monitor practical solutions for the IT systems the organisation
needs to face certain consequences such as capital requirement, human resources requirement
and time related issues. Therefore, IT systems are helpful for the organisation although it brings
various challenges that can be resolved using proper strategies and management plans.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it has been concluded that information technology system plays
important role in business. Thus, it helps Deloitte in tracking all information regarding
employees that are working in business. Further, contribution of IT system has been explained
that helps in analysing that it plays huge role in achieving long term success. It also leads in
saving time of the company and information is generated in faster way. In addition to this,
information technology system also helps in making fast decisions in any type of situation that
arises in Deloitte.
