1.1 Explaining the impact of significant life events
Dementia and bereavement has some significant impact on the lives of the people as it
had on Jacquie. The physical, psychological and social impact of the same are discussed as
under:
Physical
After investigating about the symptoms Jacquie was going through, he got a sense that he
was suffering from dementia. Jacquie must be losing control over his bowels as it is one of the
basic symptom of dementia. Jacquie was also suffering from insomnia. Also, because of
dementia, he was not able to understand properly what is going around because in this, a person's
ability to send and receive messages by the brain decreases to a huge extent. One of the basic
cause of bereavement is tiredness and fatigue, which Jacquie must be going through as well.
Psychological
Bereavement and dementia causes some sort of anger in the emotions of the person who
is concerned and associated with the specific loss. Like in case of Jacquie, he was not able to
understand what actually was happening to him. Also, he was not able to take care of his
daughter. The confirmation of dementia may further lead to depression, which was visible
enough in case of Jacquie as well.
Social
Social impact of dementia and bereavement includes factors such as disruption in sleep,
stigma etc. which was observed by Jacquie as well as he was also suffering from bouts of
insomnia.
1.2 Possible group responses to significant events
Group responses in association with bereavement can be seen as from three perspectives
which involves some changes in emotions and process of thoughts, that it somehow decreases
the understanding power of a person as Jacquie was going through, behavioural changes along
with the social and interpersonal changes are observed as well. Group responses to ill health may
involve cultural and social conditioning, also there are some people who take various benefits
from considering themselves sick. So, these can be termed as group responses to ill health and
bereavement.

1.3 Impact for others in health and social care
When a person has dementia and bereavement, it may have an impact on other people in
the health and social care as following :
 In case of the situation, when the person is suffering from dementia, he loses his ability to
think and understand properly. Also, they may not be realising it that time but the others
around realise it. As in case of Jacquie, his boss was thinking that Jacquie was taking
drugs. So, others around can take one wrong but in some cases, the people around who
know about the diseases have a sort of sympathy for the person.
 In case of bereavement, it depends on the people around that how they take it as a factor
of grief or anger. The personality of the bereaved person matters and the way they react
to some specific circumstances. Experiencing bereavement is very common and everyone
has their own way of dealing with it.
