The project aims to improve the student's understanding of dementia care by utilizing Gibb's reflective cycle to analyze their care approach. The learning objectives include enhancing the ability to understand and implement effective care strategies for dementia patients, as well as evaluating and modifying care processes based on insights and experiences. The project outlines the resources needed, including human resources (experienced nursing professionals), literary resources (research articles), and other resources such as community halls and access to the internet. The proposed method involves discussion sessions, distribution of informational materials, and a timeline for these sessions. Clinical Area of Interest
As per the World Health Organization (2017), dementia is a syndrome which
progressively decreases the ability of a person to process his/her thoughts by deteriorating the
cognitive functionality. The reports of WHO, determined that more than 50 million people are
affected with dementia within which 60 to 70% of the cases are identified as Alzheimer’s disease
(World Health Organization, 2017). As per Hessler et al. (2018), dementia is a health concern
which not only affects the social, cognitive, psychological and physical aspects of the patient but
also disrupts the carer’s values, their family and society. This is because the social stigmas and
barriers prevent the proper identification and treatment of the condition. Hence, it has been
chosen as the clinical area of interest for this project.
Conceptual Reflective Framework
Reflection is the tool using which professionals could assess their abilities their strengths
and weaknesses so that by processing any critical situation, they can improve their skills. While
working with dementia patient, to improve my care process I will utilize the Gibb’s reflective
cycle as a reflective frame work as it will help me to process my feelings and analysis of the
situation, and then will help me to find out the conceptual solutions to improve my abilities as a
dementia care nurse (Husebø, O'Regan & Nestel, 2015). This framework has six stages such as
description, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion and action plan that outlines the complete
framework of the reflective process (Karlsson et al., 2015).
Learning objectives
Learning objectives, which will be obtained through this project, are as follows:

I will be able to evaluate the care approach I used while caring for dementia
patients will be able to utilize my insights and experiences to modify the care
process depending on the situation.
Resources

be included in the project so that through those resources modification and implementation of
care strategies and approaches appropriate for every patient affected with dementia could be
obtained.
