Question 1

1. Risk Management

3. Risk Control During Demolition Works
Risks arising from hazardous chemicals will be controlled such that no worker or person is

be secured through the establishment excursion zones by use of secure impassible barricades
with appropriate signage (AS1170). A two-meter temporary fencing for construction will be
established in AS1725 (AS1725, 2010).
4. Demolition and the Demolition Method
Mechanical demolition will be the main method of demolition of the building with all equipment
and workers fitted protective devices. A continuous supervision will be done during each stage
of the demolition. Excavators, forward and back loaders will be used during demolition and
handling of wastes and transporter Lories for their disposal (Pranav et.al, 2015).
5. Site Clearance
Upon completion of the demolition works, the site will be cleared through removal of equipment
and barricades. A notification given to the building surveyors, consultants and owners that the
work has successfully been completed (Kumbhar, 2013).

b. High wind
The requirements for wind loads buildings are provides by the Building Codes of Australia,
BCA, Volume 2, Section 3 and Sub-sections 10.1.0.The Performance Requirement P2.1.1 is
satisfied for a building constructed in a high wind area if it complies with various types of
structures or materials including :
I. Masonry: Australian Standards AS 3700 and AS 4773 Parts 1 and 2.
II. The Northern Territory Deemed-to-Comply Standards Manual.
III. Timber: Australian Standards AS 1684.2 and AS 1684.3.
IV. Steel: Australian Standards AS 4100 for steel framing, AS 4600 for Cold-formed steel
structures and Residential and low-rise steel framing: NASH Standard – Residential and
Low-Rise Steel Framing, Part 1 or Part 2 (BCA, 2016).
c. Earthquake
Requirements for buildings in earthquake prone areas are provided by the BCA, Volume 2,
Section 3, Part 3.10.2. The acceptable construction manuals are provided in the Part 3.11.
d. Alpine area (NSW)
The requirements are provided in the BCA, Volume 2, Section 2, and Part2.3.6. The provisions
include that an external doorway from a building in same area must be installed so that opening
the door is not obstructed by snow or ice etc. (NCC, 2016).
