the condition in order to help to improve the condition in the near future. The research paper
deals with the depression issue among international students in Canada.
1.1 Research Question
The purpose of this research is to acquire more information on rising depression among
international students and to apply that knowledge in solving the issue. The research questions
are as follows:
RQ1: What is the current trend of international students in Canada?
RQ2: What is the comparison between the mental health condition of the students when they go
abroad to study and when they continue studying abroad for a long time?
RQ3: What is the reason for a change in the mental attitude and mental health of international
students while studying abroad?
RQ4: How can depression prevent international students?

1.2 Research Thesis
In the modern era, disappointment and discouragement is a common issue. The
expectation level of human beings has increased with increasing globalization and
modernization. The aforesaid topic is of high importance because of the following reasons –
i. As stated by Ammigand et al. (2019), the number of cases of depression, especially in
terms of students, is increasing. Measuring the level of depression and disorders
across different cultures is not an easy task.
ii. In the Canadian perspective, there has been a rise in the number of international
students who have enrolled in the post-secondary institutions of Canada. International
students generally stay away from their closed ones and suffer from depression.
iii. There are a number of issues that lead to depression. If people do not have proper
knowledge and information about the causes of depression, it will become
challenging to manage depression. It is necessary that people are aware of the reasons
and resolution of this issue.

World Health Organization, India, China, and the United States are among the topmost depressed
countries in the world.

more anxiety and depression than a student in the first year.
As per Thomson and Esses (2016), the residents generally tend to pick the other residents
while selecting teams rather than picking up people from abroad. As per Anderson (2018), the
Ontario University survey states that there has been an increase of around 50 anxiety and a 47 %
increase in depression as well as suicides. According to The Globe and Mail, 1/5th of the
Canadian post-secondary student now suffer from depression (Johnstone & Lee, 2017). Findings
also suggest that most of the students did not feel that their health is in good condition, and more
than 5% of the women stated that they experienced sexual touching and harassment. Although

coming to Canada. The findings suggest that the enrollment level is expected to boom further in
language proficiency. Ethnocentrism must be removed by the top administration and the students
