ENGLISH ESSAY: TEXT DESCRIPTION
The form of writing I have produced is a narrative, persuasive text which I have created
based on the observation of what happens within our society. The texts are titled ‘social media is
detrimental to young people' thus, the text is targeted towards the young population as the major
audience. I decided to write this narrative, persuasive test after observing the impact of the
internet and social media on the youth. The target group is people individuals who are between
the ages of 10 to 25 years whose values and beliefs could be persuaded. I also choose this target
audience because they hold the future, and their destruction is the destruction of the future.
The purpose of this piece of writing is to convince the younger generation of the effect
of social media. Therefore, the text persuades young people to have limits in relation to social
media to avoid loss of important human values such as effective communication. The reason as
to why the topic was crucial to me based on the fact that if we continue investing a lot of time in
social media as a youth, we will not have a future for the coming generation. The text is suitable
for both magazine, I, however, wrote it as a blog post on a site.
In order to achieve this, I employed various stylistic features. The title I decided for an
essay is objective and is written in a manner that the reader of the text has a picture of what is
written before actually reading the text. Through the text, I have used personal anecdotes
whereby I have used personal inference and narrations. For instance, the narration of the story of
a young girl who committed suicide due to the negative influence of social media. Youths are
often attracted to stories and also have a sense of empathy. Thus, by using sad narrations laid
emphasis on the topic of discussion, meaning most of the readers would have a deeper
understanding of the topic of discussion and its weight.
Through the content of the text, I have employed the use of persuasive language, which
also enabled me to reach deeply to the target audience. Another stylistic feature is parallelism,

whereby I have arranged the paragraphs in a way that each lays more emphasis. I have also
employed paradox as a stylistic feature; for instance, ‘people think that social media is important
well; it is not.' And finally, I have also employed the use of simple and conventional language,
which was to make it easy for the target audience to understand the effect of social media easily.
In writing the text, I used benevolent and cautionary tone to inform the younger
generation of the adverse effects of unregulated social media use. Where the tone of the text
raises awareness of the excessive use of social media in a caring and sympathetic manner, this
was useful in attracting and informing the attention of the audience and laid emphasis on the
concern.
To attain originality in my text, I evaluated various writings regarding the same topic. I
also went through various news articles to ensure that my text was original. I decided to use
precision within the content by keeping the writing short and clear. Moreover, I also used quotes
and trues story narrations which helped me to achieve originality and imagination. By
mentioning the story of the girls who committed suicide, readers’ imaginations are triggered.
Also, I have used personal experience and reals life experiences to ensure that the text is creative
and original.
Drafting and text editing was the second step when coming up with my text. This step
enabled me to organize my ideas and add various techniques to standardize my text. After
righting the rough copy of the text decided to proofread the content to eliminate grammatical
errors and restructure sentences and paragraphs. The drafting process also enabled me to add
quotations and narrations from various sources. Further, trough the drafting process, I was able
to counter check my text by comparing it to other texts on the same topic. I used the drafting
process to organize my arguments in a flawless manner with each argument supported by facts

and real-life experiences. I also used the drafting process in writing topic sentences for each
paragraph as well as to generate supportive arguments.
An evaluation of the text, I believe that the text was effective and that it met its purpose.
I believe that the creations of this persuasive essay allowed me to express my opinion and inform
the target audience of the major concerns that affect our societies currently. The man objective
of fir creating this essay was to inform the youths and younger generation of the effects of
extensive use of social media. The study's primary purpose was to persuade the younger
generation that the use of social media has detrimental effects which outweigh its benefits. The
informational elements of this persuasive essay included facts checked through real-life
experiences, extensive research findings, and news articles. The story of the girl who committed
suicide due to cyberbullying is evident in various new outlet websites. In my conclusive remarks,
I persuaded the target audience on the detrimental effects of social media use by highlighting
various disadvantages of excessive use of social media such as trauma caused by cyberbullying,
loss of values such as communication and relational values as well as wastage and other effects.
