Executive Summary
The report is based upon the enterprise system and its tool i.e. Enterprise resource planning. In
the report, the research will be conducted over the framework of the ERP system. This report
will prepared by the help of the research paper and by analyzing the paper the information about
the ERP methodology will be described which affects the function of an organization. The
process of the knowledge integration and minimal structure of the knowledge will be included in
the report. It helps to understand that process through which information of different models gets
implement in one model in the ERP system. This report will describe the improvisation in the
ERP system so that methods can be introduced for the development of new product in an
organization.

Introduction
The aim of the report is to understand the conceptual framework of enterprise resource planning
associated with the enterprise system. The research paper which is selected for the assignment is
entitled as Enterprise system, minimal structure of knowledge and organizational improvisation.
The research paper was published at Information System and Decision Sciences Department.
This assignment provides the information of the enterprise resource planning system basically, it
is the tool of enterprise system. The basis of improvisational freedom is achieved with the help
of Jazz improvisation. For the integration of knowledge the ERP system helps to understand the
framework; it expands the boundaries of the functioning associated with the development of the
new product. The assignment is also included with the focal idea based upon the selected
methodology to prepare the research paper. The assignment will also help to understand the
methodology of the research paper.
Research Question
The research questions on which this assignment is based chosen from the research paper are
briefly explained below:
1. Explain the ERP system and its importance in the organization?
2. Define the areas where knowledge integration can be realized in the organization for
using the ERP system?
3. What are the reasons through which the knowledge integration impact capabilities of the
organization for improvisation?
ERP system
Term ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning which is used for exchanging the data or
information between the different departments within an organization. This is the tool of
enterprise system also used to keep the confidential information and data safe from unauthorized
access [1]. The tool is used by the companies which are controlling large business in order to
examine or observe both internal and external operations. ERP and its methodology are most
preferred for implementing the business process of the organization [2]. There are different
functions of ERP in business organization such as CRM and business intelligence. In order to

improve the flow of data in the entire organization, ERP helps to receive the single central
repository where all information can store transferred from the different facets of other ERP
system.
From the past couple of years with the change in technology, a huge transformation can be
examined in the ERP system. The new trends which are introduced in the ERP are described
below [3]:
i. Mobile ERP: To access the real-time information associated with the operation of the
organization a new change is been implemented. The ERP system can be accessed
with the mobile phone where the employee or the individual connected with the
organization can check their dashboards and can conduct the process of their
business.
ii. Cloud ERP: Cloud is one of the most advanced technologies where the data and
information can be stored on a very large scale.
iii. Social ERP: This is the trend which helps the organization for integrating their
business process with the social media through ERP system.
Impact of ERP in an Organization
Once ERP gets to implement in the business process of any organization there are many benefits
which can be achieved. The benefits of ERP are defined below:
i. It helps the organization to save the costing of IT sector
ii. It provides support to the management of the organization so that the efficiency of the
business process can increase
iii. By the help of ERP, the business process is able to achieve the platform for process
standardization
iv. It acts the role of catalyst for the innovation of business and its function [4].
Knowledge Integration
The main aim of the organization or simply it can describe every organization concentrate on the
integration of knowledge. The capabilities of the organization can develop a big part for adding
the values while the difficulty of the replication helps the organization for its strategic advantage.
The mechanisms which are categorized in the knowledge integration are defined below [5]:

ii. Routines
Directives: These are the combination of a distinct set of rules or procedures which are
generated with the help of articulation by tacit knowledge of specialists to non-specialist.
Routines: Routines are the protocols which are organized for the process of specification and
norms of interaction used to implement and integrate to understand their needful information
without maintaining any communication.
Minimal Structure of Knowledge
The minimal structure of knowledge can be defined as the following:
I. Boundary Objects
II. It comprises of cross-practice organizational knowledge
III. In any organization, it is used to enable the communities of practice for the
coordination in the action.
IV. It provides support for the improvisation of the organization [6].
Knowledge Boundaries
The boundaries of the knowledge in organization arise due to localization of the specialized
knowledge, embedded invested in functions. The integration of knowledge can create problem
across the boundaries. The objects which are involved in the boundaries can create an interface
between the communities of the practices or in order to enable communities for the
interconnection. The boundary objects can provide support in sharing and coordination with
flexibility [7].
ERP system and Improvisation
The knowledge of the organization and the capability of the improvisation which creates an
impact on the implementation of an ERP system are discussed below:
i. Organizational Memory: The act which is performed in the practices of business and
methodology used to guide the changes in business and activities which are currently
happening in the business are included in the organizational memory [8]. The

organizational capabilities can be increased because this memory can be improvised
with the changing knowledge by introducing a new product.
ii. Minimal Structures: The change which lays between legacies to the environment of
ERP the minimal structure is evolved from models which are functionally oriented to
process-oriented. To provide support the cross-functional perspective is more
conductive. With the help of the enhanced memory and structure which are obtained
by the implementation of ERP this memory receives great support. The minimal
structure is used to provide the definite level of responsibilities which are detailed
with the zones of maneuver [9].
iii. Standardization: It is used for the development and for the improvement of
communication, efficiency, and effectiveness of the business process in an
organization [1].
iv. Improvisation: The improved minimal structure is used for the maximization of the
results of improvisation. It is the process in ERP system which needs the specific
focus [10].
New Product Development
The process which is professionals associated with the different areas like fashion designing,
marketing, engineering, manufacturing, and finance including with the business executives. It is
the responsibility of these individuals to bring the set of competence having the connection in
different domains are as follows [11]:
 Competitive intelligence such as following the current trends in fashion design or
customer behavior, using advanced engineering trends, etc.
 History and experiences which are learned during efforts made in the development of
projects.
 All the process and procedures including the methodologies to implement plans and
project management.

Methodology
To complete the assignment the research paper which was chosen is prepared through the
Qualitative research method. As the ERP system has a wide functionality in the organization
along with the impact so for the deep understanding of this system the qualitative method was
used. The authors of the research paper conduct analysis on the content and articles associated
with the enterprise system and ERP. This analysis helps them in improving their skills and
knowledge of technology. With the help of their analysis fewer changes in the errors made in the
previous research papers or articles which were studied.
Findings
With the help of this report, the framework and process of the ERP system are found that process
of this technology is helpful for the organization and its development. By using ERP system in
an Organization multiple functions can be performed in real-time by accessing from any corner
of the world. By analyzing the report it is clearly found that due to methodology which is used in
the ERP is one of the major reason in its success due to which this technology is implementing in
many organization. In this report, it is also found that with the changing time every technology
needs to be upgraded; in the ERP system as the improvisation is necessary so that no challenge
arises in the functions of organization.
Conclusion
By the help of this assignment, the current understanding of the impacts of the ERP system in an
organization can be expanded. The potential results which were obtained after the
implementation of ERP system are imposed so that the knowledge about the minimal structure
can be improved. This report concludes the information and deep understanding of the tool of
enterprise system with the help of the research questions which are proposed at the beginning of
the report. The research questions were introduced after the analysis of the research and on the
basis of these questions the entire report is prepared. To provide brief information about the
ERP system, its procedure, and impacts in the organization was the objective behind to construct
the report. This report is also helpful in providing the information about the research
methodology which was used in the research paper chosen to complete this report.
