Introduction
Main objective of this report is to effectively analysis the importance of developing
leadership and management skills. Both leadership and management play an essential role in the
achievement of organisation goal. Having a good leadership skill will help a person in effectively
directing and guiding a group of people towards the achievement of common goal. Effective
leadership skill will help in motivating and attracting people towards the goal. While having
good management skills will also help in properly managing the various operations of an
organisation in an effective and efficient manner. Developing these skills will help a person in
operating the business activity successfully and also provide various growth opportunity to a
person. In this report Boyatzis’s theory of self-direction learning is used for better reflection.

Leadership and management skills are the two important skills for an organisation and I
realise that by developing these skills I will efficiently manage the work and team in
organisation. For analysing the gap in my knowledge and successfully developing these skills I
will use Boyatzis’s theory of self-directed learning, which help me in effectively analysing my
strength and weakness. I can develop my leadership and management skill with the help of this
theory, which include various steps that are discussed below:

My ideal self: For being a good manager in a well reputed organisation I will require to
develop my skills which help me to achieve various growth opportunities. I realise that for
achieving higher growth and success in any organisation these skills will play an essential role. I
want to a good leader who effectively manage the whole work of an organisation and also able to
guide the behaviour of other team members and for this I need to develop my leadership and
management skill. I realise that having these skill will assist me to become a good leader or a
manager. Other than this I want to develop these skills for successfully completing a task and
achieve the objective.
My real self: I realise that my leadership and management skills are not so good as I only
have theoretical knowledge of some leadership theories such as trait theory and contingency
leadership theory which somehow help me to manage a work but I realise that this will be not
sufficient for me to effectively guiding other people and successfully managing the organisation
work. As because when I work in an organisation I will require to manage the whole team and
also manage the activities for successfully achieving the gal of organisation. And for this I need
to develop my leadership and management skills in a better way so that I cannot face any kind of
problem at workplace. I remember that when I organised a curricular activity at my school time I

will fail to manage the function properly because I have no leadership and management skill.
And that time I understand their there is a big difference between my actual leadership skill and
my ideal leadership and management skills.
My learning agenda: This step of this theory will help me to analysis how I can develop
my leadership and management skills. From above discussion I understand that there is a huge
difference in my idea and actual leadership and management skills and after analysing this I take
various steps which help me in developing my leadership skills. Such as first of all I joined a
online mini project workshop which is for development of employability skills and from their I
am able to learn about various types of leadership theories such as strategic and innovation
theories, transformational and transitional leadership theory. Which help me to understand how
can I face different situation in an organisation and efficiently manage the work. Other than this I
joined seminars where I effectively listen the big leader’s speech and try to understand from their
words that how can they influence the behaviour of other and motivate them towards a particular
task. I also read various books on leadership and management which help me in enhancing my
skills and knowledge.
Experimenting: I realise that I successfully develop my leadership and management
skills and for testing the efficiency of my skills I will do some experiments. Such as I will
organise a function in college and I realise that I effectively manage the whole work and also
able to influence the behaviour of other team members. I guide them how can they successfully
complete the work and motivate them to do work with their full efficiency and productivity.
Other than this I also apply this skills in my personal life and I realise that with the help of
effective leadership and management skill I am able to timely resolve my problems and achieve
higher growth and success.
Developing trust relationship- This is the final stage of this theory which guide me that
I will require to develop a trust relationship with other members. I realise that by developing a
trust relationship with my teachers and friends I am able to develop my leadership skills. My
friends will always encourage me towards development of these skills and they also suggest me
various online seminars and courses through which I am able to develop my leadership and
management skills. And know I am able to effectively lead and mange other people. By
developing this skills I will achieve various growth opportunities.

CONCLUSION
From above analysis it will be concluded that both the leadership and management skills
will help an individual to successfully achieve the goal of particular task and also help in guiding
and influencing the behaviour of other people so that they can do work with their full efficiency
and productivity and achieve the goal. Having a good management skills will assist in properly
managing a work and timely achieve its goal. It is realised that developing the leadership and
management skills will provide various growth opportunity for a person.
