INTRODUCTION
Leadership is the process of influencing the behaviour of people by making them strive
voluntarily towards attainment of organisational objectives and goals. Management on the other
hand is the process of designing and maintaining an environment in which individuals working
together in group efficiently accomplish selected aims. In this report NHS is chosen as the
organisation. NHS is basically a public funded healthcare system which was founded in 1948 and
headquartered in London, United Kingdom. The report involves the development and
demonstration of the effective leadership skills and critical assessment of the existing leadership
and management capabilities and also using a range of theoretical models and range of academic
models for the purpose to identify the leadership strengths and weaknesses.
MAIN BODY
Develop and demonstrate effective leadership skills
Leadership and management skills plays a very important role in the current NHS
modernisation programme. In context to the leadership my personal aim is to be a
transformational leader. It is basically a type of leadership approach that involves changes in the
social systems and individuals. My main objective is to be leader who has credibility and
inspirational qualities. It also involves the supportive, approachable, trustworthy and hard
working skills. For me to be a successful leader, it is important to understand and self assess
about my self knowledge. If an individual is able to find out the areas for development and
identifying their strengths and areas for the development(Heyler and Martin, 2018).There are
various strengths and key qualities that I need to identify and which will help me to become a
more effective leader that helps in developing my development needs. In order to be a good
leader and make my management skills stronger,firstly I need to improve my time management
skills and also increasing my self confidence and capability to confront colleagues in a self
managed process. My main objective is to improve my time management skills as it is very
important for me to be good enough to manage my time as poor time management and
organisation basically results in creating a negative impact on all groups and my colleagues(Daft,
and Marcic, 2019).
In addition to that I have identified that I need to focus on building a long term plan as it
becomes difficult to deal with the day to day tasks. In order to assess my existing leadership and

management capabilities I will be using a range of theoretical and academic models. In order to
be a successful employee and manager it is very important to be prepared in advance regarding
the social psychology, leadership theories and team building strategies(Schein, 2019).In order to
be a effective leader there are certain core principles which need to be played as a role of a leader
which also includes the importance of effective communication. In order to be a effective leader
it involves understanding the principles of supporting the management and leadership. There are
various leadership theories and these theories can be classified into various categories and it
involves the leadership models and theories. In order to be a effective leader I need to firstly
understand the basic principles that supports the leadership and management capabilities across
the various leadership styles. There is a huge difference between the leadership theories and
leadership styles. The most commonly used leadership style involves the autocratic
leadership(Bratton, 2020).
In such type of leadership, the leader is basically involved in giving orders and does not
believe in taking suggestions from the team members. Other leadership styles involves the
adaptive leadership and delegation leadership and other leadership theories involves situational
and contingency theories(Guinan, Parise and Langowitz, 2019). In order for me to develop and
plan a range of leadership and management development activities as a member of team it is
important to develop accurate leadership development strategy that plays a very important tool in
achieving business strategies and also helps in better understanding of the business strategies. In
every organisation it is very important to develop leadership skills and also prioritizing the
leadership in the culture of the company. In order to make the leadership development program it
important to demonstrate the personal responsibility. Moreover, developing leadership skills
basically helps in improving the overall performance of my job roles. Through the use of right
approaches, it can help in establishing the ability to lead any role in the organisation(Mirvis and
Googins, 2018).
The leadership skills are basically the ability to guide co workers towards a successful
outcome with the workplace objectives and these leadership skills helps in inspiring other people
to reach their objectives or shared goals. In order for me to identify my weaknesses it is
important to compare the past performances with the current scenarios. For the purpose to
demonstrate my leadership skills in the workplace it is very important to carefully listen and
learn. In addition to that communication in a clear manner is very important and it is more

important when you adopt a leadership role in the organisation. As a leader, it is very important
to seek out various ways for the purpose to improve skills and expanding my experience. In
addition to that for becoming a strong leader it is my responsibility to be accountable for the
mistakes and outcomes. With my strong performance I can motivate others to perform better in
the organisation through undertaking projects and approaches in a positive way(García‐Sierra
and Fernández‐Castro, 2018).
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concluded that leadership plays a very important role in
achieving organisational objectives and enhancing individual performance. Through proper
management skills and leadership skills one can easily understand the goals and objectives and
the process of achieving these objectives. The report involves critical assessment of the
development and demonstration of the effective leadership skills and critical assessment of the
existing leadership and management capabilities and also using a range of theoretical models and
range of academic models for the purpose to identify the leadership strengths and weaknesses.
