INTRODUCTION
Leadership refers to a quality that enable an individual to lead and influence its followers to
move towards the specified suggested direction so that they can grab their objective (Hallinger,
2018). This reflection will consist of the discussion of leadership and management skills and
qualities that I made realize with the context of my past experience and the inclusion of Gibbs
model. This reflection also includes SWOT analysis and the action plan.
MAIN BODY
Leadership:
It refers to an art or practice that will lead to creation of motivation among a group of
people to move towards the direction of achievement of goals. In simple terms, it refers to a
quality that lead the followers to motivate and influence so that they can act in a desired direction
(Pidgeon, 2017). An individual who possess these qualities are said to be a leader.
Management:
It refers to a process that includes a planning, organizing, directing, motivating and
controlling the human resource, physical, financial and other resources so that the goal of the
organization will be achieved. It is usually possessed by the managers (Ularn, 2018).
In order to become a successful leader or a manager there is a need of the existence of
certain qualities and capabilities that will lead to the development of the managerial and
leadership qualities. During a course of three year learning it would not be wrong to said that
when I make my self-analysis I found that, I also possess various leadership and management
qualities and skills. Right from presence of active listening, creativity, flexibility, ability to
inspire others, strategic thinking, and many more skills I found in myself. Likewise, I also found
that I have good communication, motivation, organization, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.
When I apply Gibbs model of self-reflection and its related steps, I would be able to reflect
myself along with my inner hidden skills. This model is concerned with the reflection of
ourselves (He, Parkinson and Doyle, 2018). Right from the first step of description where I made
detailed analysis of my situation that where I find that I also possessed the leadership and
management skills. When I deeply analysis the situation I remember that when I was in college I
was given a task of handling a team work. Here I first came to realize that I would be a good

leader because my time won that task. When that task was given to me I felt my actual strength
and presence of skills. Likewise, when I make evaluation of my overall skills I found that I have
good communication and influencing skill that I can easily handle the team and the task. This
stage was further followed up by the analysis where made analysis that what else or hinder
qualities and skills I already have to handle the situation. Lastly, I conclude that I have a good set
of both the leadership and management qualities and the skills that I can handle a team and
become a good leader and a manager. Although I have good set of skills and qualities, yet on the
basis of overall stages I made an action plan where I need to more enhance my existing skills and
develop furthermore new skills.
Along with this I also came to realize that I have such leadership and managerial skills and
qualities when in my personal life I made participation in a local even of at community and
society. Although I was working under my team leader, but still I was selected as a leader of my
team of 15 people. There I learned and experience that what are the necessary qualities and skills
a leader must possess and need to possess in order to handle the team and achieve the group and
the team objective. That experience not only help me realize my own skills but at the same time I
also learned many skills and knowledge from my team leader that how to actually handle a team.
That event motivates and initiates me that I would also be a good leader.
Apart from this model of reflection I also apply SWOT analysis in order to make an analysis
of my own strength and weakness. Under this model an analysis of strength, weakness,
opportunities and threats are being performed (Gürel and Tat, 2017). When I made my own
SWOT analysis I found that I have good strength and capability that I can express my thoughts
with clarity with good communication and active listening. Likewise, I also found that I can
easily motivate and influence those individuals too who have no hopes of work. I can easily
handle any situation with new creativity. Along with that I also found that I have some weakness
in the form of low patience, short temper, less initiative qualities. On the basis of these analysis I
found that with the using of my strength I can be a good leader or a manger. But if I will work
over my weakness and loopholes I would be a much better leader and a manager because in that
case not in my personal life or personal experience, I would be able to become a professional
leader.
However, it is to be noted that in order to overcome my weakness I need to develop a plan
so that by working over that plan I can not only overcome my weakness but it will also assist me

to develop many more qualities along with strengthening my existing qualities. For that I have
planned that I will participate more and more in the group and team activities in order to
strengthen my existing qualities and skills. Likewise, I also challenge myself by having a
participation in complex situation so that I can learn many other skills and qualities. Apart from
college functions and group activities, I would plan to participate at the national and the
international level team activities or the group task so that my communication, listening skill will
more developed and I would learn that how patience and short temperament will need to be
mitigate and overcome. Participation in such event would also enable me to develop and learn
many other new qualities like role of ethics, innovations, conceptual and decision making skills,
so that I would become a much better leader and a manager.
CONCLUDSION
From the above reflection it is concluded that I have adequate presence of leadership and
managerial skills. But yet with the implementation of action plan I would along with enhancing
my existing skills also able to lean many other and new skills too. Likewise, it is also concluded
that with the application of Gibbs model I would be able to realise that I can also become a good
leader.
