INTRODUCTION
The tour and travel industry has played a great role in the world and it has contributed to the
economic value and development of the organization. As per the report, the tourism industry
has contributed more than 7.6 trillion US dollars for 2016. It is also important to solve the
organization problems and it can be sorted with the help of the developing manager. They play
a vital role in the organization and they are being presented as the core of the organization.
This assignment, therefore, will help to examine the practices and principles of the
management behaviour in context to the two organizations. The further part will also help to
review the potential for assessing management skills performance. The third part will cover the
motivation theories that can be applied in the organization. The last task will cover the career
development plan for employment in the organization.

TASK 1
Being an Assistant duty manager in Clayton Hotel London, a report was prepared to gain an
understanding of the different management and leadership styles and this section will cover the
comparison between Trailfinders and Virgin Atlantic.
1.1
Management: it is the art and acts for managing things in a proper manner. It is also the
supervision of the organization and business for the implementation of the strategy to set and
operate the business. Each and every organization has a different style of management and it is
important to use and implement in the organization effectively (Anderson et al., 2018).
Below are the management styles
1. Scientific management: It addresses the scientific study for the diverse work process
that helps to improve the individual working and their productivity. The main aim of this
style is to improve business performance and synthesizing the workflow. The main
benefit is it replaces the old system. The con of this method is it takes high cost.
2. Bureaucratic management: this style is based on the political concept. It is being
designed as a structured and line of authority with clear rules and guidelines. This
approach helps in the division of the work as per the different specialization that
resembles its benefits and the cons of this style are its non-flexibility (Donate and de
Pablo, 2015).
3. Classical approach method: This approach is based on the fact that the staff has only
their physical and economic needs. The main benefit of this style is its clear
organizational structure and better and good resources utilization. The cons of this style
it does not provide the different methods.
4. Contingency approach: This approach ensures the connection of the organization
system with the environment and surrounding. The main con of this method is its
interconnection with the other organization and the cons of this method are that it
cannot establish the smooth functioning in the organization.

5. Human relation approach: This management style possesses that each people in the
organization must be associated with development and growth. The main benefit of this
approach is that it develops the sense of belongings and high motivation among the
employees but the disadvantage is its high discrimination due to this approach.
Virgin Atlantic has the management style that offers the short communication line for the
urgent problems and thus it can be said that they follow the contingency model that reflects
that the people must take part in the organization development (Donate and de Pablo,
2015).
Trailfinders utilizes the classical styles to have a simple hierarchy in the organization and
well-defined and clear structure. It also ensures to have a good management structure for
the people of the organization.

Leadership: It is defined as the ability of the organization management to achieve the goal with
the set objectives and skills. It also influences and guides the followers and managers of the
organization (Daft, 2014).
Following are the leadership characteristics ensured by the diverse styles of the management:
Autocratic leadership style: It is defined as the styles for ruling the people without any
participation of the employees and they take all decision on their own and does not allow the
people to take the participation. Employees are not provided with the right to take the
decision.
Democratic: This style ensures that leaders must allow the team members to take the part in
the decision-making process and this style possess to have the good working environment and
possess high motivation in the organization (Goleman, 2017).
Transactional style: This leadership style is adopted by most of the organization. Here the
leaders possess the performance of the employees and the supervision of the employees in the
organization. There are diverse concepts of the motivation and the short term motivation is
followed by these leaders by the reward and punishment system.
Among the various styles of the leadership, the transactional best fit for the Trail finders ltd as it
ensures to have the improved process of management. Other than it the democratic style best
fit in the Virgin Atlantic group that ensures to take part in the decision making the process of
the organization (Goleman, 2017).

Communication: it is the most important factor that is required in the organization for the
smooth business functioning and for the achievement of the success and aims of the objectives
of the business (Barnlund, 2017).
Communication Process: The process of communication starts from the sender is the party
who sent the message and the message is the content in which the information must be
conveyed. After sending the message, it should be encoded and which ensure the
transformation of the thoughts of the information that is conveyed into a form that can be
conveyed. A communication channel is also selected for sending the message and it includes
speaking, writing and different transition (Business Jargons, 2018).
The different forms of communication:
Verbal communication: It is the type of communication that uses the auditory language for
exchanging the data and information with other people. It also includes sounds, words,
speaking. The volume, tone, pitch of one's voice can contribute to effective verbal
communication. Virgin Atlantic and Trailfinders follow verbal communication in the
organization and use the different forms of the communication channels for the same.
Non-verbal communication: It is the type of communication between the people with the help
of the visual cues and non-verbal form. This includes facial expression, gestures, timing, touch,
body movement that ensures communication without speaking.
Virgin Atlantic and Trailfinders have the good process and procedures for the communication
and there is the smooth functioning of the communication in the organization. Apart from this,
it has benefited the organization to achieve the goals and increase the motivation in the
organization(Elsmore, 2017).

that contribute to the psychological and social environment of the organization. The changes in

Organizational effectiveness: The changes in the organization are very important for the long
term success and improvement in the organization that ensures the positive work culture that
brings the good relationship among all other people of the organization.
Trail finders have made several changes in the organization for the improvement in the
performance in the business. It has embedded in the organization the diverse and updated
technology and it has also managed the change in the form of the hiring new workforce and
competent workforce for the organization.
Virgin has also accepted the change in the organization and it has managed the change in the
organization by the changes in policies in the working culture. It has embedded digital
technology in the organization that has made many improvements in the organization. Along
with this, the flexible working style has also been brought in the organization that has led
motivation in the organization and improved the motivation and inspiration in the
organization(Mills, 2017).

This section reflects the reflection report for the reviewing of the own potential as a manager in
the Clayton Crown Hotel as an assistant manager:

In my career, I had been working as an officer for the tenure of the one year, after this, I had
been working as a team leader for two years and post this I was hired as an assistant manager
in the hospitality industry. During my service, I have effectively obtained the essential and
important skills and I have learnt a lot of things in my career. Thus I am having the previous
experience in the hotel industry and I also possess excellent customer service skill (Mills, 2017).
I have gained different skills during my career and which are leadership and management skills
and I have also developed skills like time management, dedication etc. I am having a hard-
working personality and high internal motivation. I always need to follow my own set of rules. I
am also having the ability to encourage and motivate my team members to perform well in the
organization (Elsmore, 2017).
As a manager, I have to manage the operations of the hotel and I have also ensured the
standards and quality that has also met consistently. I have also anticipated the needs of the
guest and managed their expectations. I have also provided prompt solutions for the issues of
the customer. I have gained a full understanding of the department of the hotel.

OBJECTIVES: It is the specific results that a system and person aims to achieve with the help of
the available time frame and available resources. These are very specific for the measurement
of the goals. I have set my objective for removing my level of aggression and short tempered
behaviour and I have also set the objective for the development of the ability to work under
high pressure (Schermerhorn et al., 2014).
As an assistant manager, it is vital to set the objectives and target and also prioritize for
developing the potential and skills for the future. I have also set the objectives for the next year
to develop my communication skills and leadership skills. I would also overcome my weakness
during the future with the help of the set objectives.
Targets: Targets are the set to achieve the desired result and outcomes. These are set for
achieving the objectives of the organization. It must be achieved in a specific time period. I have
set the target to do meditation on a daily basis to achieve the target of removing the short
tempered behaviour.
I am having good communication and leadership skills and I am also able to motivate the
people in an effective manner. I am also having the ability to lead the people. I must develop
the knowledge and skills for more opportunities that will ensure to have more experience in my
field. I will also ensure to start mediation and yoga that will assist to handle and control the
difficult circumstance that will help to decrease my stress level and to work under higher
pressure (Schermerhorn et al., 2014).

TASK 3- REFLECTIVE REPORT
A report has been prepared for the new hotel settled in the Stratford and it will cover the
managerial skills in the business. This will cover the skills for the motivation of the team to
attain the goals and objectives.
3.1
There is a high requirement for the motivation of the team and leading the team for attaining
the goal in the new hotel. This restaurant needs to develop a friendly environment and to
motivate the team. The motivation in the team is needed for the achievement of the goal and
objective. The objective of the restaurant is to increase the performance of the employees and
to provide the various benefits to the employees of the hotel for the achievement of the goals
of the organization (Shirokova et al., 2016).
For the motivation of the employees in the organization, Maslow's hierarchy model can be
applied in the organization that can increase the performance and productivity of the
employees in the organization.
For the fulfilment of the basic needs of the staff and to attain the psychological needs the
manager of the hotel must take the efforts to ensure that the employees are provided with a
proper salary. It will help to fulfil their basic needs and it will motivate them effectively. Apart
from this their safety need must be considered by providing the proper facilities in terms of the
medical and salary (Certo, 2018). Job assurance can help to ensure safety in the workplace. The
social needs of the employees can also be met by providing them with a good and friendly
working environment along with the working opportunities with the other members of the
team. The hotel must adopt the proper measure to ensure that the level and needs of the
Maslow hierarchy are met for the employers of the hotel. All other needs must also ensure to
be adopted by the employers for the motivation of their employees (Whetten and Cameron,
2014).
