experiences to handle the issues regarding the aged care services. Therefore, it is important to
provide the nurses with appropriate learning and development programs. The objective of the
proposal is to prepare an efficient training and development plan for the nurses of the
organization (Nolan, Davies and Brown, 2008).

The nurses have treated some patients relatable with some diseases but do not have
experience on handling the aged individuals in respect of their health and in general too.
So they sometime fail to handle the anger and restlessness of the aged people who live in
emerald.
The nurses are not flexible in their working manner. They only do the work they are
being allotted. They do not try to help any other healthcare personal in their work while
dealing with an aged person, even if they ask for help. They are forced to become
flexible.
While the interview is being taken, the nurses also mentioned that they did not get
sufficient time for training off site and so there is knowledge gap in various aspects of
treating and handling patients especially old ones(Chambers, 2015).
Needed Competencies/Skills
The required competencies and skills of nurses were illustrated as follows:
Nurses should have proper certificate related to having enough ability to take up
responsibility of aged people. Therefore, they have to get necessary training regarding
their profession.
Nurses should have enough patience, sympathetic and kind towards their elderly patients
and also they must try to handle patient very delicately (Agedcare.health, 2018).
In some cases, it is been noticeable that older people most of the time were bed ridden.
This leads to bed sores, which is highly risky. So, it is the nurse’s responsibility to
provide comfortable bed to the patients in order to prevent bed sores. Different types of
exercises should be encouraged by nurses to older people so that they should keep
themselves active.
Nurses must possess the quality of developing good pattern of sleeping to the old aged
patient in Emerald Aged care. Sleeping must be done in an adequate manner. Hence,
nurses must try to engage those patients in certain activities in day time so that they could
get a good sleep in night time.
After attaining training, nurses should try to evaluate the challenges that have faced
during training period. They must ensure that the learning’s could be properly taken and

applied where it is required in their future in order to personalize the entire approach of
Learning and development (Coolican, 2014).
Overview of Proposed Learning and Development Strategy
The benefits of the in-service training of nurses includes the following aspects –
This in-service training program helps the nurses to empower themselves with self
directed learning and also with practical learning attributes.
This gives proper knowledge to the nurses to work efficiently in the practical clinical
environment scenarios.
This enables the nurses to understand the ethical considerations that are to be taken while
dealing with the aged people of Emerald Aged Care.
This helps the nurses to go through several organizational challenges that occur in the
organization (MAHMUD CHAGHARI, 2017).
Proposal Details: Key Learning and Development Interventions
The proposed key learning and development intervention are important to provide effective care
services to the aged peoples. The nurses are specifically well position in order to support aged
people who are residents of the Emerald Aged Care. The aged peoples tend to be disabled to
perform their daily routine activities and the aged care nurses have to provide adequate services
to these people. The intervention program has been planned to provide adequate focus on the
roles of nurses in order to deliver effective aged care services to the resident of Emerald aged
care services. Cognitive proximity can be observed during the intervention programs (williams
and malone, 2019). Besides this, the physical proximity is also associated with the delivery of the
intervention program. The intervention plan and delivery will be very close to the job of the aged
care nurses so that it will help them in improving their skills and experiences to perform their
duties towards the aged peoples. The key intervention of the learning and development of the
nurses is to improve their knowledge regarding the aged care such as they should be aware about
the needs and demands of the aged care services. Besides this, the nurses should be conscious
about the critical situation regarding the aged care along with the procedures to manage the
critical situations. All these will be taught to the nurses so that they can be able to deliver
effective care services to the aged peoples who are residents of the Emerald aged care services
(Angeline, 2015).

Learning and Development Proposal Evaluation
In-service training is considered as the professional training where they are properly trained and
discussion of work with the groups are being done. The main purpose of in-service training is to
enable the nurses to acquire some new instructional skills and understandings. It mainly aimed at
building up of atmosphere that helps the nurses to improve their efficiencies and effectiveness
within Emerald Aged Care. Actually in-service training is said to be the most significant aspects
in case of nurses, as it helps to keep up-to-date regarding the improvement of nursing. Nurses
attend in-service training program due to enhance their knowledge, skills which are very
compulsory. Sometimes it is essential to implement the attitudes of nurses that this specific
training is for professional development and flourish of knowledge. If nurses are properly trained
with in-service training approach, then the nurses’ knowledge will be more enhanced and
Emerald Aged Care will also be benefitted. The patient that is the old aged people will get more
support from trained nurses (Opiyo, 2015). With the help of effective learning and development
program within Emerald, the performance of nurses will get far more improved. For carrying out
this, effective training approach ground theory is being applied so that training process should be
done more vividly (Pho and Tanner, 2012).
Conclusion
The development of nursing practices requires specific knowledge, skills and support of long
term commitment. The continuous activities related to the professional development involve
educational programs. These programs plays important role in enhancing the capability of
nurses. The continuing development could be analyzed as very crucial for nurses as it enables
them to be further competent within the area of aged care. The professional development
facilitate in managing the growth and learning of nurses throughout their career. Proper training
and growth approach could enhance the confidence of nurses. The nurses in the aged care ought
