1LESSON PLAN
Outline of the materials covered
The lesson will consist of introductory session through which the subject will be
introduced. The materials that would be covered are Articles on developmental paradigms.
Alternative development and Post-development paradigms by Jan Nederveen Pieterse would be
used. Through this materials the alternative developmental practices and the post developmental
processes would be discussed. Arturo Escobar’s article concerning the critique of postmodernist
developmental critiques would be used. Additionally, the work of Altieri, Funes-Monzote and
Petersen concerning the realization of food security and peasant agriculture would be an
important resource. The study material covered would also consist of theories of development
provided by Preet, Richard and Hartwick (2015).
Development is the principal theme of the lesson plan. The Alternative and Post-
development phases are covered through the work. Alternative development refers to the people-
centered developmental aspects. Post development theory of development proposes that the
development in the current world are centered on the power differences of the west and the rest
of the world (Escobar 2000).
Resource utilization
The resources that would be utilized primarily are journal articles, case studies and papers.
Alternative development, post development, postmodernist views of development and
agriculture and food security would be presented through presentations in the class.
Communication channels for providing feedback would be used. The teacher and the students
would use laptops to interact effectively within the learning process. Since it would be a single
class more emphasis would be given towards face to face interactions with the students.

2LESSON PLAN
Communication mediums such as microphones and speakers would be used to enhance the
prospects of interactions.
Activity planning
The lecture will commence with presentation of the subject matters of all the resources that have
been used. Moving forward each of the articles and study materials would be presented to the
students. The main points that form the subject matter of the articles would be provided through
the presentation. The students will then be provided with a map that connects all the essential
elements that have been known from the various studies together.
Creative teaching process
The teaching process will be interactive. The teachers will ask the students questions after
each study material is finished through the presentation. After all the reading materials have been
finished a quiz will be held where the class would be divided into two or three groups. The
groups would need to provide correct answers to the questions. At the end there would be
reflection session where students would reflect on what has been taught. There would be group
discussions with the students in regards to what they think are the implications of post-
development and alternate development. Students would need to reflect upon the learning of the
study sources that are utilized.
Breakdown of student responsibility
Understand the meaning of each of the learning resources that are used
