AI Summary
This report examines the development process for the construction of a restaurant, focusing on the different stages involved. It begins by identifying the key stages, including the concept phase, design, pre-construction, procurement, construction, and post-construction phases. The report then delves into the functions and engagement of various stakeholders, such as designers, local authorities, contractors, local residents, and end-users, highlighting their roles and impact on the project. Furthermore, the report details the outputs of each phase in the construction lifecycle, from initiation and planning to execution, performance monitoring, and closure, providing a comprehensive overview of the project's progression. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of stakeholder knowledge and engagement for successful project completion. The report is based on the 4BUIL001W module at the University of Westminster.

INTRODUCTION
This essay aims at discussing developmental process for built industry of UK. This essay
will discuss different stages of development, functions of different stakeholders in development
of project and engagement of stakeholders. In addition to this essay will also discuss output at
each phase of development. This essay will contextualize development of restaurant.
MAIN BODY
Identify stages of development process
Concept of Project- This is first stage of process of development and building a restaurant. This
stage involves planning for restaurant and determination of location for restaurant (6 stages of a
project in construction, 2020). Concept is developed for restaurant so that design can be
developed on the basis the concept of restaurant.
Design- This is another stage in which restaurant is designed and this involves developing idea
about how restaurant will look once it has been built. This involves determination of different
locations. This stage involves considering regulations for restaurant and what areas should be
there along with their size and place.
Pre-Construction Stage- This stage involves identifyingconstructor who will complete
construction project. This stage involves organization of activities of construction and also
organisation of people involved in construction process. This means that before starting process
of construction different timelines are determined and responsibilities of people are developed.
This is aimed at ensuring that everyone is aware of their responsibility regarding construction so
that process can get completed on time.
Procurement Stage- This stage involves procurement of material and input required for
construction project along with workforce required. This work is mainly performed by contractor
in small projects.
Construction Stage- This is a stage in which construction process takes place. In this stage
using input and equipment restaurant will be constructed by workforce employed for that (Wuni
and Shen, 2020). This involves undertaking quality inspection and monitoring of with being
performed by workforce.
Post-Construction Stage- This is a stage in which work of construction comes to end. Post
construction stage involves inspection of complete place that has been built and occupancy of
restaurant by owner.

Functions and stakeholders engagement
Designers- Designers are those who design restaurant that involves planning what will be design
of restaurant and appearance of restaurant once it has been built (Stakeholder management for
building design and construction, 2020). Engagement of designers is based on
opportunitycollaboration of designers with constructor and other people involved in construction
of restaurant.
Local authorities- Local authorities are those organisations that provide permission for
undertaking construction. Local authorities are established at different levels and their
responsibilities vary on the basis of nature of construction. However these local authorities
provide building regulations approval. In order to engage then positively it is important that all
requirements are fulfilled to obtain their approval.
Contractor- Contractor is one of the most important stakeholder in construction project.
Contractors are those individuals and organization who are responsible for undertaking
construction work and build restaurant. Contractors can be engaged into construction by
allowing them to actively participate in decisions regarding construction of restaurant.
Local residents- construction of building has considerable impact on people living on the site of
construction. They get affected by noise created through construction. In order to engage it is
important that it is ensured that construction does not goes disturbance to local residents.
End users- End users are those individuals who will use place being constructed (Chan and
Oppong, 2017). In this context restaurant will be used by several people including owners and
employees at restaurant as well as customers of the restaurant. It is very important that design
and construction of restaurant is such that it can attract and users for the restaurant.
Output of each phase of the project
There are mainly five phases in life cycle of a construction project and construction of restaurant
will also go through this life cycle. Phases and output of each phase is as follows-
Initiation- this is a phase in which organisation or individual looking for construction develop
whether the project is feasible or not. Output of this phase of construction life cycle is that on the
basis of feasibility study documentation for construction is undertaken. Outcome of this page
also includes answers of questions such as can project be done or should the project be done.
This helps in further processing for construction of restaurant.

Planning- this is second phase of construction project life cycle in which planning for
construction is undertaken (Heravi and Abdolvand, 2019). Output of this phase is planning that
helps in determination of undertaking different activities by certain individuals. This helps in
identifying responsibilities of individual regarding construction project.
Execution- In this phase planning is implemented in other words plans for construction are put
into action. This is one of the very important phase of construction life cycle. This phase of
construction life cycle required continuous monitoring and evaluation for quality. Progress is
also continuously monitored and as per requirement appropriate changes are made into planning
in order to ensure effective completion of construction phase. Outcome of this phase is
completion of construction work which ultimately leads to completely built restaurant.
Performance and Monitoring- This phase of construction life cycle involves performance and
monitoring of place was it has been constructed. This phase includes identifying and analyzing
quality of construction with predefinedstandards. Outcome of this phase is assurance for quality
and high standards of construction. This means that owner of restaurant get satisfied with quality
of construction as well as completed restaurant that they are going to operate.
Closure- this page of construction life cycle is concerned with closer of construction and
involves a building constructed place and that is ready to be used (Heravi and Abdolvand, 2019).
Outcome of this phase of construction life cycle is Occupancy of restaurant by its owner. This
means that owner of restaurant can use it for their main purpose of starting business.
CONCLUSION
On the basis of above discussion it can be concluded that there are mainly six stages
included in construction project. Discussion outlines that knowledge of stakeholders and their
engagement can lead to complete successful construction project whilst ensuring best
contribution of each stakeholder. This also help in identifying their role in different phases of
construction life cycle.
