Ethical Reflection
Introduction
This reflection journal is a good way to look back over Professional Ethics course as
well as thinking ahead to future. As this course has expanded my horizons through bringing
novel ideas and more refined means of thinking about various decisions and commitments
hence, I am reflecting upon learning based upon ethics. My reflection upon ethics will
provide a life-long learning for future career as well as personal life.
Reflection
In the course which was based on foundations of ethics, I learnt that ethics play an
important role to be successful in professional and personal life. To do so, I gained basic and
advanced knowledge about professional ethics during the course. Based on (Durkheim,
2013), I gained tools of critical thinking as well as analysis which will help me to develop
and success at my future workplace.
The ethics course provided knowledge of ethics in a way that I can make effective
ethical decisions in my professional as well as personal life. In addition, through combining
applied ethics topics and moral theories, the ethical coursework helped me to explore
contemporary and traditional ethical dilemmas (Brooks & Dunn, 2011). With the help of
learning acquired during this ethics module I learnt to reflect and evaluate my moral beliefs.
Moreover, I learnt how to respect cultural diversity along with the basic ethics principles in
the cultural and social context of the globe during the course.
During week-I, I learnt got the knowledge about ethical memoir with the help of core
readings. I also learnt about study of ethics in detail. During week-II, major practice and
learning about ethical dilemma analysis occurred. I came to know that an ethical dilemma
analysis is the key to success in personal as well as professional life. During this week, I went
through the readings like (Brooks & Dunn, 2011), which is contained with ethics for
executives, directors and accountants. Furthermore, learning acquired from ethics course
module taught me the role of feelings and conscience while taking ethical decisions over un-
ethical ones (Banks, 2009). Thus, through learning at DeVry University evolved my skill set
for future career development.

Ethical Reflection 4
The experience and learning gained from this ethics course strongly connected with
my life-long learning. Besides, the learning experience at DeVry not only includes an
education and career development but also evolved me as a lifelong learner. For an example,
during ethics course I learnt about working conflict resolution methods as well as personal
and business ethics. Both above mentioned experiences are related to a lifelong learner as it
provides capability to apply basic ethical theories to each and every problem of life rather
than restricting learning to workplace.
Moreover, there are social as well as individual aspects of learning and both are
equally important (Hickson, 2011). As per my knowledge built based on ethical course, social
and collective learning is a method that integrates various learning theories and frameworks
in order to get the better results from the learner point of view. I also learnt that individual
learning comes from learning by doing which is also known as reflective practice. This is the
reason that I am reflecting upon experiences during ethical coursework module. Now, I my
thinking about individual learning have evolved in a way that individual learning is an
essential part of social learning as nobody can socially or collectively learning without
implying an individual learning approach (Australis College, 2018).
After studying and practicing this ethical module, I agree that knowledge is something
which can be found in academic, non-academic journals, books and some other places yet it
can be created through application, analysis and interpretation. I also felt that my analytical
and critical thinking allowed me to analyze, apply as well as interpret things and facts which
in turn provided vast knowledge about ethics. In addition, I learnt the differences amid
knowledge and info during ethics course module. According to me, info is the set of facts
learned or provided about something or someone (Comerica Bank, 2018). Whereas,
knowledge is the skills gained from experience or education while well-arranging an info. I
can further interpret as the theoretical and practical understanding of any subject is
knowledge while info can be available in 1s and 0s as these are raw data, or a list of facts.
Conclusion
In conclusion, ethical course module on business and professional ethics provided me
a life-long learning through teachings over ethics expectations, ethical dilemma analysis,
ethical behaviours and practical ethical decision-making. I learnt managing ethics risks and
opportunities successfully by reading many important core readings over business ethics.
