PART 2
1. Rationale and supporting evidences for the selection of diabetes and heart diseases
In Australia, heart diseases and diabetes are very common that has been found mostly in
older people. Risk factor is only the selection of both these diseases as both the disease (Heart
diseases and Diabetes). In both diseases, the entire system of body become weak as it decreases
the mobility and functions (McCoy and Anema, 2018). The muscles of older people become
weak and anaemic by these diseases and by age too. When person cross the age of 50 to 55,
automatically health issues takes birth. Heart disease and diabetes are the most common diseases
that takes birth as age passes. There are various difficulties faced in collecting information about
diseases that causes serious health issues to older people. It was recorded by the National
Council on Ageing that more than 90% of people are suffering from chronic disease. Treatment
of these diseases are restricted, so it is very essential for elderly people to take precautions. In
Australia, it was recorded that chronic diseases are the common reason of death among older
adults.
With the passage of age the functions of heart not able to work properly which causes
many heart diseases. It is one of the most frequent conditions in older adults as well as one of the
fundamental reasons of death. It is very important that old person should eat healthy as well as
should go for monthly check-ups (Chronic Diseases, 2017). It is analysed that people when get
older, their blood vessels and heart get stiffen which cause many heart diseases like high blood

pressure which is the most common disease caused after the age of 45. Every 10th person is
suffering from heart disease. It is very important to cure and to take precautions from these
chronic diseases as these illnesses cause death (Khanade and et.al., 2017).
On the other hand, diabetes is also one of the most common diseases that is present in
older people. Diabetes is the disease that was found in every next 10th person. In Australia, more
than 52% older people are suffering from diabetes. It is found that stress is the major reason
which causes diabetes. It is genetic so it is very important to take precautions before. Old age
person are facing pains of this disease as they have to stop the consumption of sugar which is not
very easy. It has high risk as because diabetes makes the bones and immune system weaker. A
small injury is not able to healed up by diabetes. They did not able to go for any operations as
because in diabetes, wound, stitches are not able to heal. The most disappointing feature of
diabetes is that it is lifetime disease by which person cannot heal. It can only be control by
insulin, medicines, consuming sugar free, daily walk, eating healthy food (fruits, green
vegetables). Treatment of diabetes is limited, so it is very important for older people to take
precautions. In Australia, it was recorded that diabetes is the sixth common reason of death
among older people. People who suffers from diabetes, their life become shorter than 4 years.
When older age person suffers from diabetes their thyroid level is also dis-balance (Smythe and
et.al., 2017).
Thus, following are the reasons to select the most common as well as dangerous disease
that are very common in older person. Both diseases are very risky.
2. Justification.
The poster that was prepared in Part 1 is very useful for older people of Australia. Both
the diseases (diabetes and heart disease) are mostly found in old age population as because they
become weak with the passage of time as compare to young people. With the passage of time,
their immune system become weak and deficiency of calcium, blood, protein is also increases.
Thus, it is very important that they should take healthy food. Heart diseases are also very
common among them and it is only because their heart isn't function well with the passage of
time which result in increasing of several heart diseases. It was found that, food is the biggest
issue in building these diseases. Both the diseases are not only common and popular in Australia
but it is the major threat in the world. Like, in India, people eat oily food which is also a major

reason for causing heart disease. When problem does not do exercises it causes diabetes and
heart diseases. Laziness is also found in older people as they become lazy with age (Butcher and
et.al., 2018).
Laziness gives birth to many diseases like diabetes and heart disease. In heart diseases, it
is very important that older people should consult doctors on regular basis, eat healthy food,
don't take stress and these all precautions are also same in diabetes. Eating habits are the major
issues that was found among the world. Heart disease and diabetes both are very dangerous
disease from which an older person mostly suffers. The older people having deficiency due to the
lack of nutrients develop both the diseases as discussed above.
With the passing age, older people become weak and lethargic. Ageing makes blood
vessels weak that causes heart diseases. It is natural with ageing, there are few changes that can
occur. The pacemakers become weak with ageing as it does not properly pump and control the
heart beats (Day and et.al., 2017). Thus, it is very important they should intakes or consumes
proteins and healthy nutrient so that they immune system become strong and it easily fights with
dangerous diseases. It is also very important that they should go for regular check ups.
The above poster presentation will be very useful for the older people. This poster will
provide information about diseases as well as its symptoms, precautions and causes. Thus, these
are all the reasons why older people are chosen for study. Therefore, it is very crucial that
systematic care or treatment should be given to older people suffering from chronic health
disease (heart disease and diabetes). Special care should be given to older people as passing age,
the immune system becomes weak. Proper tools and equipment and techniques should be used
for proper care to older people (McCoy and Anema, 2018). Apart from this, in the care of older
people, family members are also responsible. They should put extra efforts in there activities like
there eating habits and make healthy food chart.

From the above report, it was concluded that nursing practices plays a vital role in the
health condition of older people. This report make understood the nursing requirements for care
of older people suffering from heart diseases and diabetes. Further-hence, this report also
evaluate the implications for nursing care that are related to environmental changes. Addition to
this, symptoms of both the diseases along with recommendations was also concluded in this
