PREVENTION MEASURES FOR DIABETES TYPE 2 1
Introduction
In this report, there will be a discussion about my experience while teaching patients
who are suffering from Diabetes Type 2. My previous session was not only dedicated to all
those people who are suffering from Diabetes Type 2 but in my previous session, I also
suggested preventive measures to all those people who are fit and healthy. The targeted
audience was males and females who belong from the age group of 22-23 years. The
estimated cost of teaching was $20.00 with approx. teaching time of 25-30 minutes
effectively and efficiently. This report will incorporate the teaching experience that I got after
taking primary prevention and health promotion sessions at Local Community Christian
Church Hall.
My experience after conducting the previous session
In the previous session, I taught the following things to the people. In my previous
session, the targeted audience belonged from the age group of 22-34 years. Gathering in that
session consists of people who are suffering from diabetes type 2 and people who are fit but
they desire to incorporate learning about the prevention measures so that in future they can
limit their chances of suffering from diabetes or any other disease. Below are the measures
that I taught to the targeted audiences:
#1: Incorporating health promotion activities:
I taught them that it is extremely necessary to incorporate those activities that are
related to promoting a healthy lifestyle effectively and effectively. While teaching about the
same, I observe that people are aware of basic hygiene and general preventive measures such
as properly washing hands, wearing masks while going to the public places, intaking less
sugar, etc. Here, I also observe that even after being aware of the basic prevention measures
the majority of the population do not follow these measures in their daily life. Moreover, I

taught them health promotion consists of those activities that help an individual to maintain a
healthy lifestyle. Following health promotions not only requires measures to take but it also
requires dedication and discipline of an individual. As many times it happens that after
attending to such session people become motivated in the beginning then after 2-3 days then
again started incorporating their previous lifestyle activities.
#2: Through actual statistical figures people understand better than just stating about
dangerous challenges of diabetes that people will have to face after diagnosis with this
disease:
I have concluded that people understand it better than actual statistical figures shown
to them instead of just stating the information. As I told people that there are about 29.1
million patients who are diagnosed with diabetes in the year 2014. I further told them that the
above number is equivalent to 9.3% of the entire USA's population. Apart from this, when
medical authorities of the various countries tested their young population for identifying
diseases like diabetes then test results of around 4.3 million young people around the globe
showcase that 4.3 million people tested with a positive test and 4.1 million people tested with
negative outcomes. Moreover, I also explained to the people about 13.4million who are 45
years old are diagnosed with diabetes with positive test results. On the other hand, according
to the statistics, there are about 16.2 million people who show the symptoms of diabetes but
they are not effectively diagnosed because of the poor healthcare system is in their nation.
#3: Diabetes prevention measures majorly incorporates parameters of self-care actions
In the previous session, I explained about the self-care actions that will surely help
them in preventing diabetes or any other chronic disease. As self-care actions including
regular check-up, controlling sugar intake, following body hygiene, etc. When an individual
effectively follows self-care activities then their immune system will be strengthened and
their immune system will help them to outperform disease effectively. However, in my

previous session, I clarify that only frequent use of hand sanitizer does not imply that you are
following diabetes prevention measures. Although it is a good habit only following this habit
is a bad habit. Regular exercise is an effective measure and doing regular exercise not only
helps in preventing diabetes but it helps in overall wellness and well-being. Apart from this,
following these prevention measures will make an individual strong at their physiological as
well as their psychological level in an effective and efficient way. People need to learn that
frequent use of hand sanitizer, frequent washing hands, avoiding overcrowd places, etc. are
not the primary measures to prevent diabetes. Although, people should focus on exercising
regularly because when they will exercise regularly then blood will effectively flow in their
body which will result in making their immune system strong and their internal abilities to
fight with diseases will be strengthened.
#4: Application of learning theory
While teaching people about the measures to deal with diabetes, I incorporate the
application of learning theory. As this theory helped me in observing their behaviour and
with the help of this hypothesis, I was able to deliver effective presentations. Although with
this hypothesis I also employed easily to understand language with hand gestures and
practical examples to make people understand the adverse implications of not following
adequate prevention measures. Moreover, after understanding the applications of learning
theory, I figured out that effective ways and measures to explain anything to the audiences. It
can be said that learning theory provides detailed information about designing and developing
a delivering lesson to the audience. Apart from this, I would like to explain that there are four
parts of the learning theory that are classical conditioning, behaviorism, cognitive theory and
social learning theory. Out of these four types, I incorporate behaviorism learning theory.
This hypothesis helps in explaining the applications of the learning theory in an effective and
efficient way possible.

#5: Body languages and gestures play a vital role in catching the attention of the
audience
Even before taking the session I knew that my body languages include eyes, hand
gestures, etc. will going to play a vital role in fascinating audiences. However, I noticed that
people were effectively observing my way of standing and other personality attitudes while
delivering a speech during my session. Moreover, while taking the session my aim was not to
impress people with my speech delivering skills. My primary aim was to engage audiences
with my content because I believe that listening and following these suggested activities will
help people, in general, to prevent diseases like diabetes and other chronic diseases in an
effective and efficient way possible. Moreover, I also believe that only listening is not enough
but taking actions should a healthy lifestyle should be the primary objective of the people.
Fear of diabetes empowers people to learn prevention measures
After conducting the session, I understand that the fear of diabetes is an effective way
that empowers people to learn about the prevention measures so that they can stay fit and
maintain a healthy lifestyle. After conducting the session, I analysed that not all the fear is
bad as many times because of the fear of knowing the implications of going in the wrong
direction, people change their path towards the right direction. For example: when we say to
the people that minimize your sugar intake because it causes diabetes then they do not stop
intaking the sugar but on the other hand when we say that intaking sugar can cause diabetes
and it will resultant in damaging your blood vessels, macrovascular complications, causes
problem to kidneys, etc. then people started minimizing their sugar intake.
What do I expect from the people to do after attending the session?
As a speaker, I expect from my last session audience that they should take action in
the positive directions. As only observing, listening and become aware of the problem of
Document Page

diabetes is not enough but people should take sophisticated actions if they really want to
outperform health problems. In general, it is the fact that people listen to the speaker and
become motivated then after 4-5 days then again started incorporating their old habits. Here, I
know that it is difficult to changes habits overnight but people should understand that it is
required to change habits because of their betterment. Still, here I would like to clarify that as
the learning about prevention measures of diabetes is essential. In the same way, learning
about the functioning of the subconscious mind is also important because scientific study
about the functioning of the subconscious mind states that a habit takes 21 days to form and
between these 21 days an individual should not conduct his old habits. For example: In the
session, I told people to do regular jogging and exercising. Now, for all those people who do
not do regular exercise if they intended that from tomorrow, they will go jogging daily then it
is like forming a new habit. In this case, they should be aware that it takes 21 days to form a
new habit in effectively and efficiently.
Conclusion
In this study, the discussion was done regarding my previous experience in teaching
people. Through my previous teaching experience, I concluded that people listen and observe
things but they do not take effective actions on the right path. As only understanding the
implications of diabetes is not enough, people should also take prevention actions.
