REVIEW MANAGER (RevMan) 5.3
RevMan is the Cochrane Collaboration’s software for Cochrane reviews preparation and
maintenance. RevMan facilitates protocols and full reviews preparation, including text, studies’
characteristics, and comparison tables alongside study data (Nordic Cochrane Centre 2014).
RevMan can further perform a meta-analysis of data entered, and graphically present results.
RevMan can also be used to write the diagnostic test accuracy studies reviews, study
methodology reviews, and review overviews.
RevMan works on multiple OS, including Mac OS, MS Windows, and Linux since it is
developed using the Java Swing platform. RevMan has a menu bar and main toolbar at the top of
the main window. Each open review document is displayed on its independent window
comprising an outline- and content panes on the left and right respectively, as shown below:
The window’s bottom is utilized for progress bar showing when RevMan is busy
(Cochrane Collaboration 2015). Panes are being used in many places, for instance, on tabs for
both data and analyses as shown below:

The panel divider between any two panes is clicked and dragged to adjust the panes'
relative sizes with two arrows at one end used for collapsing one pane or restoring a
collapsed pane (Cochrane Collaboration 2014).
The main steps of diagnostic test accuracy studies include:
1. Framing questions and defining objectives
2. Searching and selecting studies
3. Assessing quality
4. Extracting data
5. Statistical analysis
6. Interpreting and assessing results
