Social impact of diamond mining
The extraction of diamonds in Canada resulted in social lives where individuals
interacted in the workplace as they mine. There are several mining sites like Diavik Diamond
mines, Jericho Diamond mine, Renard Diamond among other diamond mineral sites. The
workers who work in these sites will have to reside in the nearby mining sites which will thus
result in shopping centers and centers where most people reside. In some cases, this can leads to
the development of towns like Ontario where Victor Diamond mine is situated (Tappert, 2011).
Environmental impact of diamond mining
Extraction of diamonds affect wildlife since mammals in NWT are the Barren ground
caribou, the processing of preparing the site for diamond extraction leads to fragmentations of
the habitat, contamination of their drinking water and also disruption of wildlife corridors. The
interaction of these animals with diamond particles also results in their death. This is a serious
loss since the animal is used for meat and indigenous culture (Choyt, 2009). Another animal that
is also being affected by this extraction in Canada diamond extraction is the Grizzly bear.
Another serious environmental effect of diamond extraction in Canada is the contamination of
the lake (lake health) which occurs once the mining operations are over (McClenaghan, 2011).
Lakes near diamond mines like Lac de Gras Lake is affected by the diamond extraction where
aquatic, lake structure and the chemistry of the water in the lake are affected. Once the lake is
contaminated the effect can reach human beings through the food chain.

Political realms impact on diamond mining
The extraction of diamond results to revenue in a country thus making the country richer.
And this was not an exception in the northern part of Canada. The policies for the extraction of
the diamond in the northern part of the country proposed that the Northern part of the country to
be protected from environmental impacts and provides economic advantages to the communities
living in that locality (Chupezi, 2010). Political territories like the Northwest Territories obtain
their wealth from diamond extractions. The Northern mining industry like Diavik Diamond Mine
is part of the internal colonization of local communities and also expanded the neoliberal era
(McMahon, 2012). Thus the extraction of diamonds in the Northern part of the country resulted
in the growth of strong political territory like the North Slave Region.
Canadian diamond is a key player in the market place of Canada and it highly boosts the
economy of Canada. Canada has high-quality diamonds which are very famous in the country´s
gemstone as well as the jewelry markets as citizens are so excited in supporting the diamond
industry. The use extraction of diamonds in the Northern part of the country results in the trading
of these extracted diamonds. The sales of the diamond will highly boost the economy of that the
country.
