Purpose:
Often people are seen to come across the phase called “Men are from Mars and women
are from Venus”. This famous statement had been accepted in the society as a large
number of researchers have indeed found out differences between the thinking
procedures and ways of reactions between the males and females (Darroch, 2014).
Modern day studies have shown that there exist differences even in the communication
procedures and styles of males and females. Therefore, this assignment will mainly be
showing the different features of the communication styles of both the gender that will
help in gaining knowledge to all interested individuals.
Introduction:
 Communication can be defined as the ways by which individuals are able to express
themselves to other people in proper ways. This can be in the form of two ways.
 The first one is verbal procedure that takes place in the form of talking.
 The second one is called the nonverbal procedure where communication is done though
writing or through effective body language (Gilman, 2017).

Body:
 The differences that are present between the communication style between the males and
females are as follows:
1. One of the most important difference found among both the genders are the ways by
which order is given:
A. Women are seen to be soft spoken while ordering others and they believe in
maintaining harmony in relationships. They usually soften their demands as well
as statements (Dalton, 2017).
B. Men, on the other hand are mostly seen to be direct in their approaches and
statements spoken by them are clearers than that of females.
2. Another important arena where marked differences is found between both the gender is
the way they exchange emotions and information:
A. Women are seen to connect through conversations. When a woman is seen to talk,
she mainly tries to share her emotions and thoughts to others. Women are seen to
be more comfortable while talking about their feelings.
B. Men are seen to connect through actions. Men do not believe in sharing emotions
with others. They are seen to connect with others through their ideas and
suggestions. They are mainly seen to avoid taking about their feelings. They are
seen to be uncomfortable when talking about the feelings (O’keefy et al., 2017).

3. Another very interesting domain where differences are found among the males and
females during their communication is the pattern of communication.
A. Women in most of the cases are seen to punctuate the conversation with different
types of affirmative noises. They are mainly seen to use “OK” and “Uh-Oh”.
They do so to show that they are concentrating as well as listening.
B. Men are mostly seen to sit quietly and then focus on what is being said to them.
However, this does not imply that the men are not listening to the conversation or
wants to disagree to the entire conversation. Therefore, researchers state that
when one should talk with the men, he or she should not feel nervous when he
would not be providing responses (Pons et al., 2016).
4. Another area where marked differences are found between both the genders is the ways
by which questions are asked by males or females. This can be described as follows:
A. Women may ask questions which may depend upon two purposes. Both the
purposes will be mainly gathering of information and asking questions about
which they already have ideas about the answers. It might be a question to people
that why women want to ask questions which they already know. To this,
researchers have stated that since women like to establish and maintain harmony
in relationships, they ask questions to show that they are interested in others.
These help them to cultivate relationships (Tiger et al., 2017).
B. Men are seen to ask questions for one purpose only. They only want to gather
information and so they ask questions.

 Apart from the above mentioned for domains where marked differences are observed
among the males and females, other different comparison are also made in different
aspects of communication which are provided below:
a) Area 1:
I. Women are seen to be more likely to communicate with other women
when they need to make decisions or when they are having any form of
problems.
II. Men are seen to keep their problems within themselves only. They do not
like the concept of sharing personal issues with others during
communication.
b) Area 2:
I. Women are seen to be more oriented towards relationships. They are seen
to find commonalities with other women and try to connect with them
accordingly.
II. On the other hand, the cases with men are different. Men are more fond of
treating to other men on a one-up, one-down basis. Status and dominance
are found to be important for them (Coates et al., 2015).
c) Area 3:
I. Women are more prone to sharing of experiencing and asking of questions
when they focus on building rapport.
II. On the other hand, men are most likely to tell as well as receive
information in comparison to asking of questions as a way of being one-
up.

d) Area 4:
I. When women are seen to have any disagreement with other females, it is
seen that it affects all aspects of their relationships
II. When men are seen to have any sort of disagreement, they try to get over
the subject and the situation and therefore they move onto another topic
for communication (Mustafa et al., 2015).
Conclusion:
From the entire discussion above, it is seen that women and men have very different approaches
of communication and therefore, it becomes important for everyone to understand the differences
for effective and smooth workflow in every organizations.
 This would help to prevent disappointments
 This would prevent conflicts between both the genders and
 Maintain a stable working environment.
The four main domains that are identified are giving orders, emotions and information,
communication pattern and asking questions. Therefore, people should be aware of the
information and act accordingly to achieve organizational success.
