In the past three decades, society has witnessed the development of digital technology
through innovation and inventions of different kinds of products and services. Today, not only
the adults use them, but the younger generation has become very exposed to the digital
information and technology, right from their home setups, classrooms in schools, and in their
social lives. The digital technology has enabled advancement and bettered the performance of
most activities within the industries and in social lives, through industrial automation and the
easily controlled systems to manage the sophisticated electronic machines and information
systems (Williamson, 2016). It goes without a word that the societies have become a global
village, with the support of the vast digital technologies that allow people to socialize, share,
create, and manipulate available digital information and images across the globe. Similarly,
digital technology has affected the career in this modern era. This essay will investigate how I
can use digital technology for my career success.
Digital technology has been a major component of various professions in today’s world.
Tremendous changes have been experienced in education, especially in countries that are
economically advanced. At the same time, the institutions of higher education learning have been
challenged to respond to the needs of globalization, as well as the knowledge economy in order
to prepare the competencies and skills of the 21st century which require changes in teaching
practices and curriculum. This has created a demand for competence and more transparent
performance and accountability in research and professional careers. Nevertheless, some
policymakers perceive digital technology as an effective tool that will help in managing most of
the changes and will act as a transformative tool in shaping careers (Keegan, 2012).

In-depth knowledge of information technology has allowed me to learn subjects easily
during my educational process. Nowadays most of the studies are done through E-learning and
knowledge in the computer makes things easier and effective. The computer makes the learning
process easily understandable and takes less time. It has also allowed storing data and accessing
it wherever and whenever needed. According to Sappey and Relf (2010), “Today, e-learning
mainly takes the form of online courses. From the resources distributed by MIT's Open
Courseware project to the design of learning materials in Rice's Connexions project to the
offerings found from colleges and universities everywhere, the course is the basic unit of the
organization” .Even test, projects and lesson modules are worked out with the help of computer
and my knowledge in digital technology has helped me to complete my studies successfully.
A career goal is an important aspect of a student’s life and has to be made by taking into
consideration many facts. I was confident during my education that I would choose financial
consultant as my career. The reason behind this was that I was seriously interested in
mathematics, accounting and banking services as I grew up.
The mastery of digital technology is extremely important in the educational field
nowadays as the computer is the basic element in all professions (Muhamad, 2017). So I believe
that mastering digital technology will give freedom to any student to choose what career they
want. My dream to pursue a career in financial consultancy will definitely need knowledge in
the latest digital information technology as the banking sectors are highly exclusive and
advanced in the application of digital technology in most of their operations. “The main interest
of the Net Generation is not technology, but what can be done with that technology. I think they
are smart, have great values, know how to use collaborative tools, and are well equipped to

address many of the big challenges and problems that my generation is leaving them.” (Tapscott,
2012).
Now the introduction of Web 2.0 can bring about changes in the study process and
working atmosphere (Fenwick & Edwards, 2016). The world is getting globally competitive day
by day, and information technology are taking a step ahead at a fast pace. In the educational field
as well as other professional fields, one can lag behind if they are not competent in the computer
field. Basic knowledge of information technology is not sufficient to go further in education and
career. As a person with financial consultancy as their career goal, I need to be well versed in
digital technology.
Nowadays pursuing a career in financial consultancy needs a good knowledge in the
latest web application process. If I lack web knowledge which is novel, then I can face a serious
problem in the workplace. Also, most of the lecturing and study modules are conducted with a
computer, and a new application gets introduced as information technology gets updated daily.
Web 2.0 is a web application system which allows information sharing and other facilities in the
World Wide Web. As per Chauvin and Lomazzi (2017), “The latest evolution of the Internet, the
so-called Web 2.0, has blurred the line between producers and consumers of content and has
shifted attention from access to information toward access to other people”. So for me to proceed
further with my career option, I need to update myself with the new introductions in the digital
technology field.
