Digital Forensics Assessment 2 (ITC597): Tasks and Research Project

This digital forensics project, submitted by a student, fulfills the requirements of ITC597 Assessment 2. The project is divided into three tasks. Task 1 focuses on investigating hashing algorithms, specifically exploring the SHA-3 algorithm, comparing it with SHA-1 and SHA-2, and discussing its characteristics, requirements, and operations. Task 2 involves a hands-on project using OSForensic software to analyze a disk image, detailing the steps taken to manage a case, add evidence, and perform searches for digital evidence. Task 3 presents a research project discussing the importance of identifying fraud actions in organizations and the role of hash functions in validating gathered data during forensic investigations. The project also references relevant literature to support the analysis and findings.
