Introduction
A hotel wants to add attractive images to its website for attracting more number of users on the
website. For generating images various primary and secondary sources has been used. After
generating the images, the main goal is to edit those images to make the images more attractive
by adding more image editing features. In the report the primary and secondary sources have
been specified, after that image of the website has been edited using GIMP image editing tool.
Various formats of a particular image have also been specified in the report and many images
have been created which was of different formats. New storages techniques for storing the
images have also been specified in the report. Various images of different kinds have been
created in this report for the purpose of making attractive images for the website of the hotel.

LO1. Be able to create digital images for specific purposes
1.1. Identify the sources for digital images.
A numeric representation of images can be termed as digital images. Each digital imaged needs
the presence to a digital computer for managing the numeric values of those images (Study.com.
2018). A digital computer is responsible for converting the values of digital images into specific
numbers on the basis of division of image into smaller areas known as a pixel.
A pixel which is also known as Picture Element is nothing but the smallest area of any image or
display screen that, when collected together, forms a complete image or a complete screen. With
regard to images, there are certain properties that are contained in pixels. A digital computer
records the various properties of pixels like the color intensity of pixel or brightness of pixel,
each of which has numeric values which are stored in an array corresponding to the image
having vertical and horizontal positions of each specific pixel.
There are various sources of digital images. In a collective manner, sources for digital images
can be divided into primary sources and secondary sources.
Primary sources: The primary sources for digital images are the sources which generate and
records visual images during the actual occurrence of any event. The images are generated
without the need or involvement of any other intermediate source (Raimo 2019). . These sources
generate digital images which are formed by the collection of small pixels which collectively
forms a digital image. The various optical instruments that come under the category of primary
image sources are cameras, scanners, etc.
Figure 1: Primary image taken during actual occurrence of an event.
Camera: It is a device consisting of around eye like structure known as lens that enables a
user to capture moving or still scenes which results in the generation of digital images (Hope,
C. 2019).

Secondary sources: Secondary sources are the sources where the image has already been
generated by someone else, and the user can use these alternate sources for accessing images
without actually generating the image by own. The sources like journals, internet, newspapers,
magazines, etc. are the example of secondary sources of digital images.

Depending on the type of image, images can be categorized into two types namely raster images
and vector images.
Vector Images: When images are formed using mathematical formula with the help of various
geometric shapes like lines, circles, rectangles, etc. those images are known as vector images.
These are no specific feature of image resolution or intensity in such kind of images, as in case
of raster images. File formats supported by vector images are EPS, SVG, etc.
Raster Images: Raster images are the real form of digital images which are created using the
collection of pixels. These images are non-geographic images, which are made by pixels instead
of geometric shapes. Each raster images contains a specific feature known as the resolution of
the image. The file formats supported by raster images are JPEG, GIF, BMP, etc.
1.2. Create digital images from sources for specific purposes
The purpose of the project is to create a website for the hotel. For creating the website there is a
need to collect various images of the hotel using primary image sources and secondary image
sources. The images have been collected by capturing various locations of the hotel using the
camera as the primary source. Some of the secondary images have also been used on the website.
For processing the images different kind of operations has been performed to enhance the quality
of the images that are used.
The major primary source used for capturing images of the hotel is the camera. Using camera,
different locations of the hotel like the dining hall, kitchen, terrace, garden and other areas of the
hotel have been captured. After capturing the images, more editing has been performed on those
images using a photo editing system. Editing has also been on the secondary images for
increasing the picture quality and for making the images more attractive. All the captured
images, when added in the website of hotel, will result in the better user interface of the website
which will ultimately attract more number of customers towards the hotel and will increase the
business of the hotel.
The photo editing tool used for processing the images is the GNU’s Image Manipulation

images and can help a user to enhance the quality of any image. A user can perform several
kinds of operation using GIMP platform for making changes in any kind of image. It helps a user
to retouch image by using several tools available in the GIMP platform (Ingersoll, T. 2015). All
the tools present in the GIMP platform are designed for manipulating images in some or the
other way. Each tool has its own purpose and capability which is unique for that tool only and
will not be performed by any other tool. These tools can be able to manipulate images of any
kind and format. The major tasks that can be performed using GIMP platform are painting using
several different kinds of brushes, cropping any image using different kind of cropping tools,
transforming any image by rotation, scaling, flipping, shearing etc., changing the background of
image, creating different layers in a single image, etc.

For editing and manipulating the images of hotel for making them more attractive and various
types of tools have been used. The major manipulation tasks that have been performed for
making the images for the website of the hotel are cropping, color balance adjustment like
balancing the hue and saturation, adjusting the borders and curves of images, adding filters to the
image, creating multiple layers in an image of making the image more attractive.
