Introduction
Communication within the organization plays vital role in management of the activities and
collaboration of work. Communication technology has been studied in the digital and changing
technological environment across the globe. The literature represents employee recognition program
through use of digital technology. the communication tool considered for the literature included social
media tools. Social media trend has been increased not only for the personal life, but in professional
life as well. According to Rossi, accessibility of the data and information has increased while using
social media tools as part of communication technology within and outside the organization. The
purpose of the report is to understand the use of social media’s communication technology along with
their advantages and disadvantages as use for employee recognition program(Sharma and
Bhatnagar, 2016).

Communication technology for countrywide employee recognition program has reflected social media
tools, as per the research conducted. It has been analysed that the communication could be one of the
challenge in the organization working internationally or domestically in more than one location, as the
coordination, teamwork, and organizational management depends on the communication between
various subsidiaries of the organizations working across the nation. Thus the platforms like LinkedIn,
Google+, and twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms could be helpful. Moreover
Yammer, as one of the proposed social media tool by Sharma and Bhatnagar could be useful in
increase the employee interaction, and appraisal(Sharma and Bhatnagar, 2016). Thus in order to
keep the employees motivated this platform could be useful and increase the value of the recognition
program for the recognised employee and also motivate others to be recognised in near future. Thus
the key useful aspects of social media tools as communicating technology are motivation for the
employees, increased interaction among the distant employees, and increase social pride and
ownership for the employees (Darics, 2016).

1. Increases interactivity and information delivery the interactivity due to increase in
connection can be improved especially in case of virtual teams. Moreover, the communication

of pride for the employees achieving recognition and reward in the organization. This will
increase the employee retention time as well (Sharma and Bhatnagar, 2016).
3. Organizational image – With the use of digital technology, employee recognition through
social media platforms reflect organizational human resource policy that will eventually
reflect good working environment. Thus, eventually this will enhance organisation image as

technology. This will thus include initiation of the process by creating various pages like
company’s LinkedIn page, company’s networking platform like Slack for direct messaging

1. Effective social media policy – The use and misuse of the social media tool as communication
technology in the organization can be manage through appropriate policies by higher
authorities. These policy may include level of liberty that will be provided to the employees
while communication. Other than this, the format of sharing must be mentioned that will not
hamper organizational reputation.
2. Increased security – Security is one of the major issue identified, thus increase in security
among the network and technology is to be considered by the human resource. For this it is
recommended for the organisation to use advanced tracking software, so as to assess the
source of malicious intents (Gordon, 2012).
