Introduction
The existence of extreme natural phenomenon such as earthquake buildup of high
intensity within the tectonic plates calls for argent need to be prepared as a nation to minimize its
consequences and impacts to the community especially in the earthquake prone areas (Plaid &
Shmidheiser, 2014). Due to the prevailing conditions at the Republic of Avengers, the
Emergency Service Department from Metropolis, has deployed and charged us with the mandate
of factors pertaining to an issue of earthquake that has occurred and affected major towns of the
nation and give the way forward to help solve the existing calamity.
Situational Report
The occurrence of earthquakes off the East West of the coastal region of Republic of
Avengers on Sunday, 05 January 2020 at 03:58 hours (7.1 magnitude on the Richter scale) and
(6.5 magnitude on Richter scale) at 05:21 hours has led to extreme damage and destruction
especially in Smallville, Nathan and Kessels villages.
The hit of the earthquake has resulted to a huge blow within the Republic of Smallville
with an estimation of 3500 dead bodies, 25000 people have been left homeless especially in
Smallville where many houses collapsed due to landslides. In addition to these, almost 7450
villagers have been injured and has led to flooding of victims to the hospital.
There is also extreme damage of infrastructure for instance many major roads have been
rendered inaccessible by landslides thus leaving helicopters as the only means of transportation
for relief to Smallville. Furthermore, there is also a report of temporal power outrage
immediately after the earthquake in Nathan village with Smallville left in complete blackout.

Critical conditions of water and sanitation in remote areas of Smallville village due to blockage
of waterpipes after the earthquake. A more critical situation also arises due to the increased
number of victims in hospital with only two hospitals left functional as others have been
damaged due to landslides and liquefaction.
Currently the army under the order of the president of the republic of Smallville together
with the assistance of the local (NGO) and Who are working their way round the clock to help
evacuate the victims and prepositioning their resources in order widen their efforts to help give
relief to the victims more especially the families and children in dire need.
Situation Analysis
The hazards coursed by the earthquake in this part of the world give a bad picture in the
history of the republic of Smallville. The presence of landslides and steep terrain in the region
possess a possibility of land to collapse due to liquefaction and aftershocks / the heavy downpour
that makes the area soggy.
Thousands of people who have been left homeless and sleeping in the open air are
subjected to catch febrile diseases such as Malaria especially in Smallville village where there is
a case of one individual who has been reported dead due to (plasmodium falciparum). In
adequate hospital and trained personnel’s in the regions also increases the risks of death since
many hospitals have been destroyed by the earthquake thus leaving only two hospitals which are
already flooded with countless patience.

Lack of electricity and water supplies in the interior parts of Metropolis due to disruption
of waterpipes and power grid worsened by impassable roads raises the risk of cholera and
diarrhea as individuals are likely to utilize the water supplied by a small river stream in
Smallville. Cases of pneumonia and asthma may result due to victimized families sleeping in the
open air with the existing heavy downpour.
The presence of impassable roads also raises the risk of more death as the rescue team are
left with air as the only means of reaching the remote areas of Sunnybank, Nathan and Kessels
that have got individuals buried debris.
These existing hazards possess a number of long-term risks and short-term risks to the
nation of Avengers. Prompt economic setback as a result of destroyed infrastructure such as
transport and health facilities. This call for the government to redirect its capital in reinstating the
nation instead of making more major steps ahead. Possibility of increased crime rate as many
individuals have lost their belongings and many of the head offices have been destroyed and thus
their ids lack of proper governance.
Setback in academic progress as many of the schools and market have been destroyed
and many families have been displaced thus leading to an instant cutoff from learning activities
as many people would be busy searching for food and shelter. In addition to this, along term

effect such as permanent damage to the environment that may never be recovered due to the
presence of heavy rainfall and aftershock in the region that may course the area to collapse.
Many families are prone to be affected by psychological trauma that may take long to heal
especially children and adults who have witnessed the death of their loved one and loss of their
homes. This may result permanent brain damage or loss of social touch with the community.
Rapid Need Assessment
Due to the prevailing conditions in most part of the nation, it calls for a dire need to speed
up the rescue process. Doctors and other medics need to be deployed in the region to help treat
the large number of victims. Quick supplies of clean water and shelter to the affected so as to
reduce the risk of cholera and malaria in the region.
It is our recommendation that the government should consider also setting up temporal
clinics in the region and supply relief foods and shelter to the victims for many are injured and
can not work or sustain themselves. Quick access roads should be made to help reach
inaccessible regions and save those buried under debris (Boyer, 2014). Lastly, the government
has to ensure there is supply of electricity in Smallville so that it can help generate heat and in
hospitals.

live in a very bad condition, it calls for the government to speed the recovery process by

situation necessitates the need to improvise a way of evading such calamities.
