AI Summary
This report outlines a disaster recovery plan following a hurricane that severely impacted a central data center. The plan prioritizes the recovery of critical assets, hardware, and software. It emphasizes the importance of identifying essential processes and gathering experts to restore operations quickly. The plan suggests utilizing a 'hot backup site' to minimize downtime, acknowledging the higher cost but emphasizing the greater losses associated with prolonged downtime. The report highlights the need for swift vendor engagement to procure necessary equipment and software licenses.

As we see in the scenario that the centre has been affected by the hurricane, so we assume
that all the hardware and servers present have been completely affected and the
environmental loss has affected the working and operations of the centre. Since it was the
central data centre, it is necessary that we restart the emergency operations at the data centre
location which is nearest to the centre. We have follow a disaster recovery plan so as to start
the operations which can be done by following the following steps or priority:
1. All the available devices which are in working condition must be collected.
2. Information about all the critical assets those have been affected, including humans,
should be gathered.
3. We should then identify the hardware and software that are critically necessary for the
recovery and setting up emergency operations. This will be done so that the
installation can begin fast for recovery.
4. Search for online, example cloud and offline example redundant servers, should be
identified to start the process.
5. Since it’s the central data centre hence all other centres depend on it and it is of great
importance in business process functioning and revenues, so all the processes that
have been shut down must be recognized from the recovery plan or the personnel.
6. All the experts must be gathered so that right business processes are setup
7. Since it’s a hurricane hence government help must be provided for evacuation
purposes.
After all the information has been gathered, the vendors are informed to provide the
equipment in the minimal time (we assume that company has vendor agreements for
equipment supply). Same will be done for software versions and licenses. Once received, the
hardware and software installation must begin at the same centre site (if possible) or at the
alternative (leased) centre site because central data centre operations should have minimal

downtime so that the entire business is not affected. Meanwhile installation is being done,
preparations must be done for backups to begin. Since all other sites are far away from the
central site or the alternative one and all the data was present only at the centre, hence we will
refer to the “hot backup site”. This is so because the downtime is very less and we want
minimal errors during recovery and only it will provide minimal errors while backing up.
Although it will be expensive but the loss that the company will face due to larger downtime
of central server will be much more than the cost of backing up and recovery process.
