Introduction
The main goal of health promotion is to create awareness on risk factors that may expose and
individual to illness according to Haber, (2019). Apart from the risk factors, health promotion
addresses the issues to do with the prevention mechanisms to issues such as mental health,
obesity, drug abuse and physical inactivity.
How the outcomes have been met
There are various ways in which the design and clinical prevention and population health
activities was met throughout the course work and discussions. The first achievement is that the
readings that were available talked about the topic of disease prevention in a specific population
setting. For example, in the discussions there are primary and secondary approaches to disease
prevention. These two areas educate on the minimization of the risk factors and the illnesses that
are associated to the risks.
Apart from elaborating on the risk factors, the discussions help to illustrate the meaning of
primary and secondary prevention mechanisms. The discussions elaborated that primary
prevention refers to the activities which target prevention of the manifestation of a given illness.
The prevention mechanism is achieved by immunization and supplying food that can improve
the immunity of an individual. Consequently, the course materials were able to illustrate the
secondary prevention. The course work illustrated that the goal of secondary prevention is to be
able to detect an illness early and come up with mechanism to block the manifestation. When
doing health promotion, one can initiate evidence based screening activities to be able to detect
an illness at an early stage according to Sharma, (2016). Early screening helps in finding an
effective way to counter the illness.

On the other hand, the course materials meet the needs of the health promotion topic in multiple
ways. The first achievement was elaboration of the meaning of health promotion. Health
promotion refers to the act of educating people on how they can take control of their health in a
professional manner. It is a literacy effort which aims at improving the health behaviors of
individuals. Health promotion is always done in a community setting according to Eldredge,
Markham, Ruiter, Fernández, Kok & Parcel, (2016). Besides the meaning, the assignments
provided information on the relationship between health promotion and prevention of a disease.
The two activities are relatively similar because they share several objectives. However, there
exist few differences as discussed during the course period. Some of the activities involved
during health promotion include informing people about the sexual and reproduction health
matters, teaching interventions and policies on health, tackle the issue of nutritional and diet
among the community members. Course materials illustrated that when it comes to disease
prevention, dental hygiene, vaccination of children and food supplementation are inevitable.
Conclusion
The assignments that were provided in the course work were able to educate students on the
benefits of educating health professionals about disease prevention and health promotion. One
of the things that the students were able to learn is the skills needed during health promotion and
disease prevention. For example teamwork and relating with the community members.
